Hi guys, new member just after a little info. I am planning a 888 style naked/cafe build, but still undecided if it will be an air cooled or watercooled mil as yet. I have been collecting various bits and pieces and am getting close to having to buy a frame.
My question is, which frame will suit my 888 tank best? I have found three monster frames, m900, s2, s4, and an st2 frame all for resonable prices. As I'm am going naked my initial though is to use a monster frame simply for the smaller frame, will my 888 tank fit either of of these three monster frames? or would the st2 frame be a better choice? I have seen st4 builds on this site but am unsure whether the st2 is simiar to the st4.
Is there any links to builds with 888/851 tanks on these frames you could point me to?
Thanks in advance dan

Why not just buy an early Monster and you have everything you need to start. Then start customizing.

Yes that's an option, but I have found some very resonable frames, just trying to work out if my 888 tank will fit, it's a left over from an old race bike, I just can't remember what that frame looked like compared to the monster/st

Monster, ST and 851/888 frames are all quite similar. At least the front halves!

Frames aren't expensive, it's all the other little stuff that adds up. Like hardware and wiring harnesses and suspension parts other than the forks and shock...

Sounds like a Monster based build to me... much easier to find parts
Good Luck

good registerable frames are not so cheap in au due to our write off laws.
i have seen pre 02 m900 with 888 tank, not sure about the st frames. st frames differ mainly in the cross member in front of the vertical cylinder, so you need to make the choice 2v or 4v before buying a frame.
buy a complete bike and put the tank on it.

yes deff not cheap, a complete bike is a better start for sure, i have options there as well. i just can't believe there is not more info for around for a 888 tank swap onto monster or st frame given what a sexy tank they are.
if air cooled, prob will end up going 888 tank on m900 as from what i can tell its almost identical frame to 888 minus the frame stiffener.
or water cooled, a 888 tank on s4r
any help would be appreciated
cheers

if you google "m900 with 888 tank" you will find one bike. there is no help.

Hi, i've been researching for my 95' M900 build and the frames are identical rear suspension and front for both bikes 888 and M900 (apart from the subframe and stiffener) you are gonna find differences in things like the holders for the radiatos and things like that. A very important issue is that the M900 has different yokes. That is because the aircooled engine should be closer to the front wheel because it is smaller. Ducati arange this with different setting of triple trees so bringing the whole bike to the front and thats why the only difference is the triple trees. I guess that if you fit an 888 engine on M900 frame with the M900 yokes you are going to hit the radiator or the front head with the wheel.
