Maxton M1R's or tuned Showa GD011's?

As the title says. I initially read up on the Maxton treatment being around £300 so thought that would be the way forward. Got in touch with them and it's more like £800+ for the cartridge kit to be fitted, with rebound and compression adjustment.

That makes a swap to a later USD front end look much more affordable, but how will the Showa's (tuned and sprung for my weight) compare to the Maxton treated M1R's? I'm under the impression the Maxton route is best as you're essentially getting current-tech, modern fork internals, but it'll be about £300 more in the end.

Are you racing? If not a set of USD with gold valves is pretty darn good.

If you go down the Showa path you will need to change out the triple clamps as well which may or may not need to be factored into your costs depending on whether you have a set or not. I got a Maxton cartridge kit fitted to a set of M1R's for my DB1. I selected compression and rebound damping only which kept the cost down a bit as you can set up pre-load collars fairly easily and the 2 riders for this bike are all about the same weight so same pre-load. Maxton kept the fork tube mounted reservoirs (a DB1 feature) for no extra charge although it meant a bit of extra work for them. Highly recommended and beautiful workmanship if you want to maintain the original look for the bike.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I won't be racing (though it's the dream... one day...), so I don't need the best of the best as I wouldn't get the most out of it anyway.

I'll check out those options, plenty to be looking at.

The Matris kit requires no modifications to the fork and is about 600.
Qualitywise I can`t say anything about them. I just know they exist.

Maxton did a great job on my later M1r, left the valve assembly for anti dive but removed inners. Gave me full adjustment and my Tricolore now with 17" wheels gives a real account for her self in the turns.
