Kill switch, engine runs on ??

Hi Chaps

I have just been doing some winter restoration on my 94 888 Strada.

New battery fitted, also ECU and rectifier and stuff was removed to enable frame painting and replacing the under tray etc. I put everything back together in the same order, I am pretty sure. Bike started fine but it wont stop running via the kill switch or the key.
I suspected an ignition capacitor earth lead but can't find one. Is it part of the ECU ?. If so can it be fixed ? or does it mean a new ECU or stalling the engine when I want it to cut. ( not ideal)

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Stab in the dark here, many years ago I lost my keys to my GPZ1100 and to get over it I took one wire from a live to the coils and I was able to hot wire my bike and ride home, the lights didn't work so followed a friend in his car. Those were the days. Although hard are you sure you haven't mis-wired anything? When you do turn off at the key does anything else still work?

My first thought would be a relay might be sticking on. If it is, the ECU will stay powered up and your battery will loose some ergs. Have a look at the wiring diagram and look for the common point. That's always a good place to start.

Thanks, I am going to check all of my wiring against the diagram this weekend...I was really careful and tagged everything but you never know. Its going to be something daft no doubt.

Ok have had a good look at what's going on this morning.

As suggested when I turn of via the key all the other items are dead its just the engine that won't die. Checked all the wiring, aok. Removed the ECU cleaned all of the pins re connected and it kills now when the engine has just been started but runs on when warm, if I disconnect the ECU it stops and will kill on the first attempt at re starting but again will not kill when its been running a while. I think I can count out the Kill switch and ignition switch, it looks like its down to either the ECU plug/wiring loom or the kill part of the ECU itself.

Any ideas, I suppose I could live with it as an intermittent fault but would rather fix it. I wouldn't have a clue what to do once inside the ECU its just bits of soldered stuff to me, there is like a brown dust on the soldered parts at the back on the solid state panel but no obvious blow ups.
Could it be diagnosed by an expert from just the ecu itself?

Running on when hot is what also happened to me but on my DT175MX, the intake manifold came loose and let air in and it ran flat out until the fuel was turned off and it ran out. Check for leaks.

Update.

Thanks I know that problem well but I didn't mean hot as in hot hot just once warm thanks for the thought though, it appears to have fixed itself ??. Cleaned everything, blew through the ECU with the computer internals dusting spray. Put it all back together again and hey presto! its all working correctly, kills every time ........or until the next time maybe ! could have been a dodgy earth, dry joint, dirty pin or something or maybe it was a sticking relay as suggested. I'm not really happy solving a problem without doing anything but I suppose that's the way the problem came about, put it down to Ducati eccentricity maybe.

Just need to get a bit warmer and ice free and I'll go for a blast. I am going to the Springfields show in Spalding Linconlshire ( not USA ) on the 20th-21st of January 2017 and will have the bike there anyone else going ?

Bit late on this, and glad the problem has gone away. If it comes back, as griff851 say, might be worth looking at the relays. I had starting (rather than not stopping!) problems with my SP3 a few years ago and I seem to recall that changing the relays sorted it (not sure how different an SP3 is though).

Pretty much the same in that area I believe, I recon it will be the relay.
