I thought I would give an update on the cosmetic restoration of my '89 Works bike.
I believe I have shown pictures of how I painted the frame and rear subframe using Marvin's and my favorite single stage white- House of Color. I hung the bodywork yesterday and fitted the wing type Camlocs which the factory used to fasten the bodywork panels together.
I painted the new bodywork (nose and side panels) last week just before the weather got too cold. No decals -- next Spring. I need to fine sand and polish-- but it looks nice even without the required buffing.
I was very lucky to find the old color tints to mix up the color to match the tank and seat- these tints were out of production but I found them on Ebay.
I wanted to paint the bike as an '89 which would have been more correct- but the seat was painted as and early '90 Factory bike with the double strips around the solid white number panel and did not wish to repaint the seat.
For those of you who paint---- I used my old GTI to lay down the base coat. Found that the HVLP cap on the GTI just threw out way too much clear for me to control (low skill level) so I bought a Tekna Prolite and wow. Love that gun for clear.
These are pictures before sanding or polishing. Will do that in the Spring and then apply graphics--not sure I will clear over but I may since the gun makes it so easy.
