Hi Chaps
I'm a newbie from Spalding UK. I have a 1994 888 Strada that was imported from Japan a year or so ago. What a great bike, I have always wanted one and it doesn't disappoint. Just wonder if you can either point me in the right direction or offer some suggestions.
I have the awful spragg noise on start up sometimes it catches sometimes it doesn't, sometimes sounds like the starter has stalled altogether but it does start. Yesterday the starter went into full wirring mode and I had to rock in gear to get it to catch. Obviously now I have to do something about it PDQ.
I am halfways capable at doing stuff myself but I am also not adverse to having a Ducati man do the job if I am likely to cock it up. So what do you recon. If its been posted already could you direct me to that post..thanks.
Do the work myself ?
Take it to an expert ?
Any ideas on how much an expert would charge, if not in money hours?
Finally I am told that the KTM stuff is the same, is this true and how much of the Spragg clutch gears etc are shared, I have a KTM dealer just down the road from me.
Thanks in anticipation.

I have a 1989 model 851 Strada that had exactly the same noise and I replaced the sprag clutch myself without any problems but it requires the removal of a few bits to get to it so really depends on your level of mechanical ability. I used the KTM part (ref 58440026000) and it was about half the cost of the Ducati item but am not sure if this is the same on your later bike.
Do a search for sprag on the forum and you will find lots of info including my posts from sometime in 2014. Definitely a good idea to fix it asap before it causes further problems.

Thanks for the info on the KTM part, I do a lot of my own work on my classics its just that the 888 can seem a bit daunting when you take the fairing off. I am going to have a word with my local Ducati people to get a ball park figure.
Thanks again for the posts.
