Hey all! I was just perusing around and thought I'd share whats going on with my 851 project at the moment. I'll take more pics and upload them soon because I am really bad at remembering to do that ahead of time. I do have a few to share now though.
So I bought the bike as a retired track bike that had been in storage for at least a decade and a half. It was dressed in its finest formal track wear and stripped of everything unnecessary, even a starter motor! My first step was to determine if the bike would start and decide whether or not to move forward with putting her back on the street. Spoiler alert!! I'm still working on the project, so, it did. All it needed was an oil change, coolant flush, and a replacement fuel pump/lines/thorough tank cleaning.
After all that, the next step was to sell what I wouldn't use: The race fairings, fairing stays, and rear subframe.
Next, I had to install a new starter motor and kickstand.
So finally, she can stand on her own..
Now to what I am working on right now: Mounting the new fairing and hardware. I have been afforded a fantastic opportunity to part out a 996 that was un-titleable and purchase many of the components I needed for very cheap. I picked up the entire electrical system and also the cooling system for my bike. I have the radiator and all associated hoses attached and mounted. I am now working on mounting the new fairing:
Crackle!! Sizzle!! Weld!!
Thanks for checking it out guys!! I will take more detailed pics of some of the work I did and share them on here as well!!
Special thanks to a few forum members here for helping me along when I need parts or have questions!!!
