RWG Hi Folk's, I have been using my Tricolore for last month or so after recommissioned and re bushing rear suspension linkage, bike has been brilliant fitted with 2CT power sports, 17" conversion. However the swing arm is stained from battery spillage years back when I bought her, my question is: What is best procedure to withdraw swing arm spindle, to fit a replacement arm then get original re finish? Cheers in anticipation Paul RWG
hindsight Hi Paul - Thoroughly recomment the Abba bike stand, with swingarm removal kit (which bolts into any handy M8 thread, usually footrest fixing on the frame). It holds the bike steady, with no reliance on the rear shock or swingarm, allowing you to remove it. Regards, Mike
italian888 johnboy888 wroteI have a stand from Chris Anderson : Ducati Stand, works a treat !! Cheers, JohnHi John, are you still running the standard headers (45mm). I have one of those stands but doesn't fit anymore with 50mm headers. Damn Rob
BARONROJO This is my way. I've got a very simple home made stand and a small table jack. I've just removed the damper and sent it to be overhauled.
johnboy888 Hey Rob, I'm still running standard headers, so stand goes in easily for me. I never thought about the bigger header restriction. Cheers, John
RWG Cheers Mike, Just drag back on subject fellas, Mike I have an ABBA stand so will source this kit you mention Question is it a straight forward procedure to withdraw spindle,do you drive it out with a bar of sorts? Cheers
griff851 I hang the bike from the roof with good old fashioned rope. The spindle is jus a pin, that sits in needle rollers in the case. Undo the swing arm pinch bolts, take note of the shim washers between the cases and the swingarm, use a solid bit of rod (preferably brass) and a hammer to push the pin out.
RWG Thanks guy's, run her till end of month the sorn, great help cheers. local engineering should may be able to assist with that nice tool. Last question, should I have arm Powder Coated or is their other option ? Once again cheers
BABA RWG wroteMike I have an ABBA stand so will source this kit you mentionAnd it sings "Waterloo" when you put the bike on it ? 😁 Same as Baronrojo Or Gipsy (kings) style... Old shock absorber wasn't smooth enough...😁
900SL Anodising looks nice but you cant beat the standard brushed alloy finish... Spent ages with Solvol Autosol till my fingers were numb on some bikes over the years...hard to keep the 'lustre without laquer... Depending on the severity of the acid stain it may have to be polised out anyway before any coating is applied....Good luck anyway.....nice bike..
