Can anyone tell me exactly what 851 frame's are made of?

My old 1988 750 Sport handbook claimed it was Chrome Moly but to lift the frame up that was surely BS.

The 1988 851 frame doesn't feel like it's anything special, neither does the 1991 I have either....

clarity anyone?

Steel weighs the same as Chrome molly, but because its stronger they use a thinner wall section. I think the differance between a pantah frame and a Harris is 6-7kg from memory.

I am asking as I want to do a bit of welding but I would like to use the appropriate material.

FWIW, I was told when I repaired a crashed homebuilt plane not to use the special chrome moly welding rods for TIG, to use regular mild steel filler rod because it doesn't get brittle.
