888 SP5 Resto - replacing fairings from SP2?

Hi

I've bought an SP5 and about to start the resto.

A member here kindly sent a list of parts that are interchangeable between SP's and Strada's. I have to find a full set of fairings, nose and tail piece and been offered a set from an SP2.

I wanted to check here that there are no differences in the plastic between SP2 & SP5 before i go ahead. The fairings and nose look the same to me, other than decals? The seat unit is different.

Alternatively the best recommendation on sourcing fairings? ABS or carbon.

The nose, tank, and seat are different on the SP2 then your SP5. The seat and tank are markedly different- complete generation change between the 851 to 888 style. The nose is less noticeable in that on the 888's/SP5 there is a small ridge over the headlight to the air intakes while the SP3 nose is flush above the headlight. Also the holes for the '90 mirrors are spaced different then the later noses '91 on up.

You can use the side panels- they are the same except for paint.

Have him send you pictures and compare them to your original bodywork.

Small detail : Earlier side panels (before 92) did not have the screw bos's inside the side panels, hence you would need to make some home work to attache the V-piece under the radiator (if you want that mounted) Many after market panels i have seen are missing this detail.
