888 Strada or SP5 - VIN ID

If you don't give them proof you're the actual owner pictures probably won't make a difference!

Get a real sharp close-up of the plaque and also check the engine #!
Together with the frame # you can be 100% sure it's an actual SP5.

I recently had an age related number plate put on my sp5....to do that i had to get conformation from Ducati of the year of manufacture and model, they checked...called me back with the same answer...their records showed she was a Strada....after more investigating, they then contacted me to say their records had been updated and mine was in fact an 93 sp5....i to was impressed as to how helpful they were

That's really good to know, thanks. Gives me a little confidence I'm on the right track. I'm expecting another call from them which will hopefully clarify things.

I have my mechanic checking engine numbers tomorrow. Will post pic's once he sends through.

My mechanic has checked the numbers and posted pics which, by the comments on here, suggest it's an SP, see attached. The close up of the Plaque looks similar to the ones posted on here (according to my eyes).

Also taken a pic of the Fork and the Rad - the Rad is certainly not original and the I'd be interested in any thoughts on the Fork.

She's in need of some love - but seems to be genuine. Only thing I haven't got is a reply from Ducati.

As i said,fork has a wrong color.
Take a look at the picture,the bottom part of the fork where the calipers are attatched should be more off a gold instead of the silver it is now.

You're right, although the top of the fork is the right colour. So maybe the bottom has been changed deliberately (e.g. sand blasted)?

Engine : a SP5 for sure :-) 9S casings are said to be better than those w no markings...
You may want to replace roller bearings to ball version..as they are not long lasting.
Internals are hopefull SP5 stock parts..

Radiator looks like a SR monster style (or maybe ST) given the fan holes...
Right radiator version looks like attached, no holes (fan is attacned to 4 small brackets on the right hand side towards the engine)

Lower legs could have been changed.. Brown lower rings looks SP5 like to me... (im not sure about internal diffrences between strada and sp5 version, if any ?)

But you have the most critical SP5 elements : Frame and engine... go ahead but dont expect no surprices for a bike with a rough past life... (lot's of love... not to mention lots of money is needed to make her shine again)

Lets see some naked pictures (only of the bike please !) ... when you get it... :-)

Ship her to Thailand!
Some nice (4 lane) roads from Phuket / Phang Nga to Krabi...
Did a 800km trip once and we had to stop for gas 6 times, and an occasional elephant... 😁
