Looking for a general consensus and advice. I have a std 1990 851 strada with termis hacket chip air box mod. This year the M1Rs are going to be set up- re valved and will replace the std shock with either a Nitron or an ohlins. I am looking at purchasing a set of lightweight wheels. Having previously owned a 900ss belt I know the later 1000ss 5 spokes are lighter than std wheels, but I see on eBay I can get a set of either the sand cast marvic streamline wheels at £1850 or a set of forged OZ piega 5 spokes. I know the marvics are more in keeping look wise but honestly not that bothered. I am awaiting confirmation from dealers of respective weights to compare. However ( getting to the point) does anyone have experience of either the marvics or the OZ's? Thoughts please

I have the 6 spoke (old style) Carrozzeria forged aluminum on mine and love them. I would assume that the OZ are about the same.

I have experience with Marvic and Marchesini three-spoke mags, and think the Marchesini's are better quality, but harder to find now. I also think anything other than a set of three spokes would look out of place on a '90 Strada. And lastly, I think mag wheels should be for track use only, for safety's sake. There are big and noticeable benefits from seriously reducing un-sprung weight, but if it's a street bike, it makes more sense to spend your money elsewhere, unless you only ride on nice smooth pavement.

Thanks for the advice, my thoughts behind lightweight wheels is the unsprung weight coupled with having my suspension sorted. Then I will look at brakes etc and finally engine performance. Although you can never have enough bhp I prefer a light good handling bike to a overtly powerful pig on a roller skate.
I agree with the statements about marvics over the 5 spokes and have emailed Dymag for quotes as well. Cheers chaps
