Is a 28 year old 851 with only 7kms on the clock a good thing?

A 1988 851 with 7 kilometres (probably around 4 miles) is being advertised with the claim it's never been started - the 7 k's are from it being pushed around & moved over the years.

Is this necessarily a good thing? Surely engines need to be run unless stored in a vacuum sealed container! Realisticly what sort of issues would a bike like this have if say you were to buy it and then want to actually ride it?

It's dinky di' MMM...I know the guy who had it and as any bike parked up for a while I'd give it the once over.
Lubes,fluids flushed and replenished..probably crank the motor by hand to get some oil around it...check age of belts if they haven't been changed for new type.
Condition of tyres too parked up for that long may have gone hard or have flat spots.
Either way I think it's on the money for what it is....its only up the freeway...go see Murray and have a look and pick his brains...😝

btw wouldnt it be a 1989 model if it has 17" brembo wheels, non tricolor body etc.

or did some 89's get released in 1988?

production generally started september of the year prior. but it is an 89 model.

Having bought lots of low mileage bikes 7kms would be not necessarily be bad in my view. Just cause it has 7km doesn't mean it hasn't been run remember. So I think you'd need to explore the owners maintenance habits and see. But I'd be budgeting tyres for a start.

I bought a GSX1100SXZ from a guy who had it in a museum but would go down there every couple of weeks with a battery and a fan - set it up and run it through the gears with the fan blowing the cool air on it. It only had 19000 km for a 1981 model bike but ran as smooth as silk cause it had been properly maintained.

And I had to buy new tyres......

That's the lightest and most powerful 851 we've seen on here chap. 😏
Christ I don't dare think of the time spent and cash modifying my old 851 nail to get it down to it's weight and performance, when I could have just bought something like this one?

If it's never been started I'd expect all of the oilseals to be very hard and possibly past it by now.
