My new to me 1991 851 with frame damage! Is it possible to repair this to a good & safe standard?

This is the complete bike, missing an engine & front wheel! (Don't worry I got it cheap)

Sure you can repair it... but you have to find a professional help.

Hi Marty, nice find! That's the sort of thing I was looking for when I was looking for a candidate to start my race project.

Repair the frame? It's a pretty straightforward job really, nothing technically difficult other than maintaining/restoring the frame geometry. It's a little awkward in Perth with no specialist motorcycle frame repairers but the skills are out there, you might just have to do a bit more legwork/labour yourself.

I can recommend a good painter if you go ahead with it, he's not cheap but did a beautiful job on my frame so I'm more than happy.

I've put the same post on PSB (Perth Street Bikes) forum & ive been given a few good leads for guys here in Perth that build race frame & have all the gear for the repair. I just need to decide if I should try & find an 851 motor or fit a 2011 848 EVO engine I have spare! Either way it's a build I'm looking forward to.

Seeing all of the very tasty re-made Classic kit that comes out of Australia in the UK based Classic Bike mag's, there must be someone down under who makes steel tubular frames?
There's several Classic tubular frame makers here in the UK.
Almost anything's repairable, you just need to remove all the damaged parts and replace them with new straight parts but...
There probably comes a time when it's more cost effective to build a new frame, even if you cut out and use the original headstock to keep the bikes indentity.
If it were my bike (in your pic's) I'd be looking for another undamaged frame to swap it with.
Ain's Casson who used to post on here had his totalled 888 SP(4)S frame sent to Pierobon in Italy, where it was repaired but it wasn't cheap, still as it was a genuine SPS he wanted to keep it as original as possible.
However Pierobon also make and sell brand new 851/888 frames, as do other 851/888 specialists.
