Tri colour

Hi, new to the forum. I have found an 88 tri colour. But my research says it should have 17 inch wheels. It has 16 & was a Japanese import. Can any one enlighten me as to when exactly they went to 17". The bike is reasonably priced, soI am keen to know more.

In 1988, only the superbike "kit" had 17" full magnesium wheels.
The strada had 16" akront marvic aluminium/magnesium wheels.3

I guess you have found a strada, so it's normal if you have 16" wheels.

Tri colour

So its a tri colour strada with 15000 klms. Price is around 9195 or $14500 Australian. IT is in quite good condition. Your thoughts on value ? Where is the best info on changing to 17" wheels please.

It depends of the state of the bike, if it is in real good shape or if you will have some job to do on it.
It seems to be a fair price compared to ordinary values of these bikes.

Hey Mark, if the 851 Tricolore is the one located in Eudlo, Qld and advertised in bikesakes, I would think twice as it has the wrong fairing ( 88 bikes do not have screws around the headlight) and wrong wheels ( yes, they are 16" marvics but they are from a 400ss ltd edition) amonsgt other little warning signs. It's a Ducati and it's a 851 so would probably be a good bike but it really doesn't stand out as a true tricolore. Anyway, always check the engine and frame numbers.

I'd definitely go and have a look for $14,500 as you're getting at the top end of values. Last year I bought an 851 a 750F1 and a tonne of spares for $20,000. The 851 is an 88 Tricolore and in very good condition except for the aftermarket pipes. In my view I'd be after around $13,000 for it if I stupidly went to sell it.
