To whose ducati bike this fork upper T?

Hello
its a long time i didn't post and use my 851 1990 ( back broken with a severe discal hernia)
but now it's time to look after it and do a serious maintenance, and run.
yesterday i met a guy in a ducati shop who shew me a dirty but new vintage upper fork T.

see picture.
immediately, I recognised a M1R/ Marzocchi ( 41.6 DIAM.) but not for a 851 1990 (Neiman support lack and the fixation hole axis is slighly excentred.)
As the logo on is, the Cagiva logo, i imagine it could suit on a duc between 1988/1990...
900 supersport?
any idea?

Hi Patrick,
Your English is just fine, and I love questions about the Cagiva era. Did you measure the fork tube holes? Could they be 40mm and not 41.7mm? The Supersports from that era had 40mm Marzocchi forks. If you have a copy of Falloon's "Ducati Belt-Drive Two-Valve Twins" book, go to page 93. There is a picture of a 1990 900 Supersport cockpit, that clearly shows the upper triple clamp, which looks exactly like the one you show, except for the ignition switch holder on its center front. Is it possible that the ignition switch holder was machined off the one you were shown? I don't have a picture of the 907ie top triple clamp, but I think they had handle bars that bolted to the top of the triple clamp, like the earlier Paso models. I believe the only other model from the Cagiva era that had clip-ons was the F1, and their Forcelle Italia 40mm upper triple clamp looks much different than the one you show. Good luck with getting your '90 back on the road.

Yes I measured 41,7 and no part number on it, that 'd be too easy...
Visually thisone on your picture is exactly the same that the 851 1990 ( with the ignitionswitch holder)
So it's not a 900ss one...
this part is completely new and has slept in this Ducati shop from 25 Y!, no machining trace on it.
the central plug hole axis is excentred of near 2/3mm, and i think ( not measured) the plug hole diam was smaller.
that 'd mean a bike with a 41,7 M1r fork but with the frame column closer to the fork, and a frame column diameter smaller?
I also thought about F1, Santamonica, Montjuick, Laguna Seca series, perhaps one of them owned a 41,7 M1r??
The positive is now we are at least two detectives about this funny Cagiva era✌

FWIW That doesn't look anything like a 907 top triple.

Possibly the long forgotten 750 Sport - the parts bin special that followed on from the Paso, but the lack of a key barrel casting is a mystery.

Unfortunely not , i have had the 750 sport in 90's and the fork diam was not the 41,7
Well, it is becoming a mystery... or one of these famous italian jokes from this era 😎
This famous 750 sport definitively will stay in my memory and my heart, overall the failures, from the fuel tank leaks to the rear arm broken by going to this weber auto carburettor quirks.

The lowly 750 Supersport can be made to work good if you set your mind to it. Here's the 1990 AMA Pro-Twins GP2 racer that Fabian Cortez rode to championship victory.

After looking at your picture one last time, I'm convinced the ignition switch boss was machined off. And the fork tube holes could have also have been opened up from 40mm, so I'm betting a whole $1.00 US (my max betting limit) that your upper t-clamp started life as a '89-'90 400/750/900 Supersport upper clamp. Why it was machined, or what's going on with the steering stem hole, is a mystery.
And FWIW, I also have a soft spot for those bikes, I have one of their nice swing arms on my Harris TT.

Just googled 1988 750ss ducati images. 4th pic. 900ss ignition switch is stood away. Look bloody similar with big forks by the look of it. Somebody send Bill a dollar is my vote.

Finally got around to building a shed. 9mx7m. The steel is for anti tree falling and smashing other peoples rather expensive machinery. Cheap insurance. Got one either side. Just got to find a good lathe now.

Yep. Its a ripper. Kleenmaid, i found by the sode of the road. One of those handy moments as i was going to use the house one for changing some bearings that day. Then low and behold on the way back from dropping my boy off at school, one oven. Also scored a parts washer the other week. I've since cleaned up and reorganised so it looks less cluttered. I scored all the alubond panels for nothing as well. All up it took 4 months by myself to put it up.
Just finished a 450 bottom end rebuild and have a 250 in pieces and just starting rebuilding a monster 600. My 900 bevel twin is having the frame doctored and should be ready for paint next week. The things you have to do to get your bike going hey. 851/888 is ready to roll, but no time just at the moment.

A fresh new, that Duc shop don't have one but four of these T clamps...
have a look on the picture
two of four are slightly differents in design, but specifs are identical.(diameters, hole position)
Following our exchanges, it seems they could perhaps suit on 900 ss, for sure not 851 ( steering hole is different) and the lake of ignition switch hole stays a pure mystery.

On that photo, you can see more easily that the steering column is not centered on the top yoke (this one is not painted) like on road bike (different offset).

The main mystery is clarified.
the first one on my picture is almost the same, probably slightly heavier.
It's a pity the shop doesn't have the full lower clamp parts...otherwise ( if i don't tell jokes) four 89/90 std bikes could become some Lucchinelli clones, for the handling at least 😞
Why that shop owns 4 of them? Since 1989, i never have seen yet Lucchinelli version in france or europe... and the original owner of that shop has left 10 Y ago so that will stay definitively a mystery.

This Ducati shop is in france.
The boss and the Team are jung. For sure more than me😁
I well know the parts dept girl, the reason why i have spent some effort for her.
She don't have knowledge on this 1990 era.
They surf on the new Ducati buziness and fashion but they don't have big heads, they love Motorbike first.
