Complete 851 Engine Wanted - Australia

Hi everyone,

My first post! I'm a life long Ducati fan with multiple Monsters including two 1993 M900 models & a 1995 916. I'm looking at picking up a 1991 851 that's missing it's engine, plus a few other minor parts.

So I need an engine! Would prefer one already in Australia to keep shipping cost down but would consider anything on offer.

Depending how original you want the bike, its possible to fit 4V engines from ST and monster modells, with varius of modifications (ECU:s, wiring, throttel body, etc.)

I would like to keep the bike original but if I can't find an 851 engine I may have a go at fitting a 2V S2R 1000 engine I have spare into the frame until such time I find an engine to suit. (I also have a spare 1995 M900 engine that would keep the bike within the same era!)

Hi Marty,

I have a spare 851 motor, kept as a spare when I had 3 851, I did some track days and thought it would come in handy. As it happens never needed it and now 1 851 and couple of 888 , dont have a need for it now.
I was thinking of advertising it but PM me with your thoughts, though I think carrage would make it none viable.

Not fair.... That would amazing but at $4800 Australian dollars plus $800 shipping & another $2000 plus on import duty & taxes its going to be too expensive!

I did see one in Melbourne on eBay awhile back not sure if it sold or not! You wouldn't happen to have his contact details? It's worth a shot....

Cheers Brad, spoke with Ralph he still had the engine the compression was ok (140/125) but not great! During our conversation he also mentioned he had a 851 frame & rear end so a deal was done on the lot.

I owe you a carton next time I'm in Melbourne 😁

Huge thank you to everyone that replied and sent me pm's I appreciate the effort some of you went to. Plus, once again and big thank you to Brad the engine arrived and now ready for a rebuild!

Arriving on the same truck was the rest of the bike (in boxes). I've got one big project ahead of me!
