Australian 851 Compliance

Hi Guys
New to forum. Anyone got a photo of an 89 era 851 compliance plate. Mine came registered with VIN but without plate. Passed police check. Just don't know what it should look like. 851 just joined 916 BP, 900 Superlight, 900 SS and 907IE.

my 89 851 was a ron angel imported bike, and it doesn't have a compliance plate either. it was continuously registered in vic from new until i took it off the road in 2005, and it had the number off the plate that's on the frame rail off the lh side of the steering head on the rego papers.

do you have previous rego papers for it? just use that #.

Thanks Brad. I guessed it would look the same as my Superlight and 907. The bike was originally sold through a Ducati dealer in Adelaide and has been continuously registered in SA. The issue I had was registering in Tassie as it had to get a roadworthy and that couldn't be done without a compliance plate even though it had a VIN and engine number match. I'm told the issue was low volume sales were exempt from needing to go thru the compliance process so not issued a plate and if you go to the Government website, the 1989 851 is listed as one such bike. Anyway, it was all cleared by the Tassie police and ServiceTas so no dramas.

back then, there were a few importers for au. nfi for nsw and qld, ron angel vic, sa, tas (i think), lloyd chapman for wa. mine was a ron angel bike, but everything else they sold had plates so i don' really understand what you were told. certainly a few of the 750 sport and paso i've seen over the years came through ron angel and they had plates.

they generally had a piece of steel with the au vin stamped on it welded over the euro vin. euro is zdm851sxxxxxx. au vin is zdm1eb2xxxxxxx.

you could buy one of the plates off ebay, stamp it and fit it and away you go. what are they going to say then. well, apart from no official record.
