Note on log book says bike was manufactured in 1988 then 1st registered in UK Aug 1989

The correct model year for your bike, which looks very nice, is 1989. There are a number of differences from a 1988.

Apologies if I have mislead anybody, for that was not my intention.

I just quoted the information taken from the current and 2 old style log books supplied with the bike.

Just for clarification, the last 6 digits on the frame are. '000186'

I'm sure you didn't, and again it looks very good. Collectability aside, the 1989's had a number of improvements that make it a better bike to actually ride. And better looking too. Good luck with your sale.

A question to the experts (sorry if i post it here, i know it's not the correct area).
Since I'm restoring a 1989 bike to its original condition, i thought that the rearview mirrors should be the black and rounded vitaloni. Am i wrong?

No expert by any means, but the pictures of 851's labeled '89's in my Ducati books do show the black round styled mirrors.

desmolele I Agree with Bill-- my '89 and my '90 SP2 has the round textured vitaloni. The vitaloni also came with smooth surface but I have only seen textured finish on Ducati's.

Hello pal,

My first 851 was identical to the one in your pictures. It had the black mirrors with long rubber shrouded gaitors over the stems. They are the originals. The mirrors on yours are off a 1990/91 bike. Thanks.
