Getting my 851 started - suggestions?

I've been reading through the posts to see if anyone has had a similar problem to me and while there have been some close ones I haven't quite hit the jackpot.

I bought an 851 some time ago. When I went to look at it, it was running fine. When I picked it up and got it home the seller had removed the fuel pump from the tank. I got round to putting a new one in but when I turn the ignition on the fuel pump keeps running. So replaced the computer with another one I have and still does the same thing. There seems to be no leaks so not sure why the system isn''t pressurising. Of course the thing will not start either. Battery is fully charged.

Any suggestions appreciated

Fuel pump may be wired backwards (+ve/-ve reversed) with this scenario the pump will keep running (backwards) and doesn't pressurize the system properly when the key is turned on. Swap +ve / -ve leads over and pump should run up to pressure then switch off when the ignition key is turned On

What sort of person sells a bike and then nicks the fuel pump before delivering it?? Did he think you might not notice!

Yes a bit of a bastar@@@##d lets say. It did come with a 750F1 so I'm not complaining.

Now Nigel you are a bloody mind reader. I was looking at it last night thinking I wonder if I put the wires on backwards, would the pump just run in reverse? Being the shy type I was struggling who to ask this very same silly question - then like a godsend you are you answered it without me having to ask...........

So guess what I'm doing tonight?????? Response tomorrow...........

And here is a pic of the F1 for those who may be interested.. It now has indicators but does require a full resto. The only thing I need for it is a clutch master cylinder - if you know of anybody......

That looks like a very original, very early F1, but what on earth has happened to the mirrors? Either it's an optical illusion or there's an 18 wheeler somewhere with it's mirrors missing! 😁

Success!! Lovely listening to the sound of the bike for the first time in a long time. At first it wouldn't idle so I put he original computer back in and idles fine. Now to attend to the other bits and pieces including a horn.........
