DezmoDog wroteThe '91 is the bike I fell in lust with first, but the '92 does have it's advantages like you mentioned. What it comes down to is I'll probably go with whatever I find first. In nice condition of course. I'm ok with a little maintenance but I've already got a couple project bikes and don't want to add another.
Time for an update.
Last fall I heard of a '91 for sale in Canada. That sort of fizzled out but a few weeks back I inquired about it again just for yucks, one thing led to another, and yesterday I drove the five hours to see it. The bike was as described so I put a deposit down on it. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be able to take delivery, and officially join the 851 owners "club". At this point we're pretty much just waiting for the paperwork stating it was built over 25 years ago (makes importing it much easier) and some decent weather.
Details - it's a 1991 Strada. Under 10,000 miles, mostly original, and I'll be the third owner. It's not a museum piece but it's pretty nice (the needles on the gauges aren't even faded) and the lack of mods is a huge bonus to me. The second owner has put roughly 500 miles on it over the ten years he's owned it, but now he's got a hurt shoulder and doing that sort of mileage each year just isn't in the cards any more. 😁 Seriously though he's got multiple bikes and it was time for this one to go.
Hopefully I didn't just jynx it by posting an update before the bike has made it's way over the border!
P.S. The 907 will likely be for sale later this spring, probably my 160 too. I've had a change of heart on the 996 though, it's no longer on the market.
