888 Lucchi Rep restoration

Hello eight-valve people.

New on here but wondered if anyone could help me out.

Putting the finishing touches to an 88 Lucchi Rep that I raced back in the late eighties but I'm missing the front 320mm discs. I took the originals along to Brembo UK for a refurb' and the guy I left them with took another job and the discs disappeared with him.

They have a massive - almost comical by today's standards - offset to cope with the narrow hubs on the kit Marvic mag' wheels. The disc rotors are cast iron and they float on rivets on the gold-anodised alloy bell cranks. If anyone has got even one for sale (don't care how knackered it is) for me to get copied that would be a massive, massive help.

I was going to ask if anyone also knew the RAL code for the silver frame paint but having trawled through this forum it seems it's going to a guess of accurate guesswork and some old colour photos.

Hi,
What a cool bike to have had for so long. Nice! I don't mean to tell you how your bike is/was equipped, but I thought the Lucchinelli Replicas had 300mm rotors with caliper adapters to reposition the calipers up on the M1R sliders (see photo) from the original mounting position for 280mm rotors the Kit bikes came with. If in fact you do need 300mm rotors, I would recommend sourcing them from Carlo Leoncini in Italy (link attached). He offers 300mm rotors with two different style carriers - photos may come up a little slowly.

As far as the frame paint goes, I would assume the silver would have been the same as the Tri-color frame silver. Does your frame have any original silver on it in a protected spot so that you could compare paint chips to it? Is it a metal flake silver? We powder coated my ex-Adamo Kit frame and picked the closest "mild" metal flake silver we could get, think it came out pretty close to the original. I could dig out that paint info for you if you can't come up with the actual original paint code.

If I had some discs to measure I'd be able to answer that question conclusively. I always thought they were 320s but yes, they do use those square adapters so you may be right and they probably are 300s. What do I know? I just screwed the throttle open and looked for the next braking point.

Thanks for the link. I'll contact him. The offset looks about right but my Italian is a little sketchy. Need to make doubly sure before committing the plastic.

As far as the silver paint goes, no my frame has been shot blasted to bare metal (some time ago) so there are no paint scraps to match but, yes, it's the same silver as the 851 kit. A sort of flat metallic silver. Any codes gratefully received!

Maybe cut out a 300mm cardboard disc and see if fits into the calipers correctly?
And here's what I wrote down for the paint in 2011:

Rohm and Haas "Alien Silver" (Akzo Nobel Powder Coatings)

I called the powder coating shop and he said that should still be good paint info, but like I said before, that may not be exactly the shade that Ducati used.

Lucchi Rep Disc's

The front disc's are 300mm 100%, I will try and find a couple of pic's for you but as I'm not currently at home I'm not sure if there on my cloud or not.

I can measure the offset once I'm home but I will also email another member to measure his offset meantime, cheers.

888 Lucchi. Rep. front disc

Front disc is 300mm. diameter with an offset of 22mm.

Offset measured from the outer friction face of the disc to the outer flat face of the spider mount.

Offset the same for the other two M1R legged bikes in the house, the 851 Tricolore Strada and Kit S.

I believe that same rotor offset carried over all the way from bevels and Pantahs. The '89 851's switched to 320mm rotors with less offset and the newer wheels. The '89 M1R fork slider caliper mounting lugs were moved accordingly.

Your photo shows the more common rotor carrier that is available from Carlo (who I highly recommend).

Thanks people but I've just found two pairs of brand new Brembo discs. Deal done. However, if anyone else out there has any 851 kit or early 888 parts for disposal I'd be pleased ro receive a PM!
