It's dodgy old race bike season again and this years team started off with just the 3 bikes. The 1962 250 lady of the lake, and the super el cheapo 450 springer head 450 desmo, and another bloke from nth Queensland who has joined "Team- we still dont have a name yet".
The event: Masters of Morgan Park. The meeting is for BEARS and as such we get to join the fun with our beasts. You get the distinct impression we are not really welcome, but tolerated. :-) The comment from the coarse commentator about all the bike actually belong in museums and not here at the track sort of summed up things. I think its because all the super zoomer late model bikes have noise restrictions applied, and we're runing open megaphones. You get a few coming in and complaing about the noise, but our standard response is " Hey buddy, if it wasnt for this, you wouldnt be riding what you are. Get over it." That track stewards agree with us and they get all huffy. Lucky for us the clark of the coase is an avid bevel head.:-)
Results were good. The 350's header pipe fell off at turn 4 on the first qualifying but was recovered and the flange welded back on for $25. The 250 was basically a tuning weekend, a 30 year old external oil line began leaking moderately, and the electronic ignition unit shit it self on the last race. The 450's number board became detached and had an oil change, and a selector box change due to the 43 year old spring breaking. They just used substandard stuff back then hey.:-)
At the end of the weekend the results were not too bad. The 450 was 1st in period 4 up to 500cc, and 3rd in 500 to 1000cc. The 350 was 3rd overall in period 3 and only just missed a 2nd by half a bike lenght against a 57 Matchless 500 in the last race. The 250 set a period 3 up to 250 lap record.
All in all a great weekend. Many lies were told and much fun was had. Next meeting is in 6 weeks. "Team we dont have a name yet" is a force to be reckoned with. Beware old guys on old bikes.😁
Sorry about the photos, they open up right way up if you open them in a browser.
