belt tension checking

Had to get a new phone due to a small issue with an earth , while changing the on/off button harness on the iphone. Any way got an android os one, samsung galaxy. I down loaded "Strobe tuner", and tested it today against the factory tool. Factory tool read 98, phone got 103 consitantly. As with the factory tool, a small flick with the thumb nail measured at the annotated place on thr belt. Good enough for general serviceing. Easer than N-tuner ( or tracker) that I was using before.

That is pretty neat. I do not have a smart phone but my wife does (which makes sense). I will see if she will down load that APP and then steal her phone for bit.

The OEM frequency gauge that was recommended by Ducati for use by the race teams on the 996RS was made by Clavis (so you didn't have to have a whole Ducati Mathesis or DDS at the track). It is the same tester that Ferrari had as their special tool. When it first came out it was almost $4000.

I bought a couple of used Clavis gauges on ebay for cheap ($100-200) from liquidators that were closing down industrial companies, and thought that I was doing well, as I needed them for work (Ferrari) and at home (Ducati).

It's so ironic that now you can just use your telephone to check it for free.

The Clavis tester actually works really well as it has a U-shaped micro-phone pickup that you straddle the belt with. On mid-engined Ferraris, it is very easy to measure the tension of the accessory drive belts with this pick-up and would be very hard to do with a phone. So I am glad that I bought them

Yep the phone has replaced heaps. The ultimate Swiss Army knife for bikes. Last time I was in a shop their was a guy chatting to a multistrada.
Mine has a strobe light/rpm, conversion charts and apps, belt tension, dB meter, parts manuals, inclinometers, vibration sensor meter, accelerometer, speedo, the list goes on. If it had little arms and legs, you could leave it in the shed overnight and everything would be fixed in the morning. 😁
