Here we have a NEW never fitted Top Yoke for a 851/888 Corse Race bike.

52mm holes for Ohlins forks with a 25mm offset. The calendar states manufactured Nov 1990 and as you can see it has the 2 holes for the top plate with the lugs for the ignition machined off. There is also no paint on this part. The part number is the same as the stock part but it is cast into the part as the original castings were used but then machined differently for the race bikes.

Had a few questions about this part concerning it,s authenticity..........mostly why does it have 2 holes for the top plaque when it is a race part ?. Well all I can say is here is a Ducati 888 WSBK bike for sale with exactly the same top yoke on it. These parts existed at the time and this one is NEW. It has a few storage marks but as you can see from the last photo it has never been on a bike so has not suffered some of the stress,s of racing as some have. After all some of these do crack, this one is NEW. This part will only fit your road bike if you have the lower yoke to match and are prepared to do some of the mods required to limit your steering lock and move certain equipment to other positions as the race bikes. However if you are a racer and have the longer swinging arm fitted then you will get some benefit from fitting this part.

Looks just like a SP yoke to me.
On the 888 racing the yokes where magnesium not aluminium like the one you have.
Also bit different design.
And the track was wider as well if not mistaken.

Only the early 851 corse bikes had the normal design yokes.
Correct me if i am wrong.

Not for the Racing from 90 and 91.

The magnesium triple clamps appeared in 1992 on privateer bikes.
All previous machines with magnesium triple clamps are improved bikes.
The Racing frames 90 and 91 are not intended to receive a lower magnesium yoke without modifications (need to cut the steering stops).

They use standard triple clamp without lugs for ignition as dudlington says.
SPs have a 30mm offset like strada.
Only Racing and SPS 92 have a 25 mm offset.
But R91 don't have holes for the identification plate.
They have M6 holes for the brake and clutch fluid reservoirs.

It is a top yoke for a Racing 90 for me.

The "grottini" in pics is a false...
It is not a Racing, it is not SP5 as it sold and it is not an ex-Lucchiari.
It is a modified SP4...
And on this pics, it has a 30 mm offset.

Standard SP yokes were 30mm offset, this has 25mm offset. 52mm diameter holes are also for some kind of Ohlins forks (so definitely not an SP5). Also there is no fittings for the ignition key, there is also no paint as stated. It is new , never fitted and has not been made from a standard one. I have 4 other 888 top yokes including SP versions and this one does not match any of them. There are smaller differences as well which I will not try and explain but it is definitely not a Standard SP yoke. There were Magnesium yokes, also wide track ones , but there were also many other versions including the Alluminium alloy ones which this is one of them. If you look at the photo I attached of the WSBK race bike for sale........... this is also not a Magnesium one and looks identical to the one I have.

A friend of mine know the actual owner of the bike.
I see pics of the frame he did, it is a real Racing from 1990.
It has its plate identification as SP2 too, but it is a Racing version (and not a modified SP).

This one is a R90 too (ex Caracchi) with four M6 holes redrilled (not original) has the holes for the identification plate.

Both have 25 mm offset triple clamps.

May be hubinduc here, can confirm it to you with a picture of its top yoke (he's got a R90 too)

Thanks BABA , from the photos of the R90 it looks like the same top yoke as I have. What I have also noticed on this one compared to the other top yokes I have is how sharp the top edge is where it has been machined , the material logo is different and the flash in the casting process is different showing the different behaviour in the casting process probably because of the different material.

Hopefully someone is building one of these machines and wants a new one to compliment the build or someone who is racing wants a spare in case the original cracks. I have been asked a price and I,m asking 300 Euros plus the shipping wherever you are in the world. I think it is a fair price for what it is and would cost you that at least to have something similar machined up and it would not be original. There cannot be too many left in the world that are un-used.
