Info request 280 mm Cast Iron Rotor bake pads

Any advice on what pad compound(s) to use with the original 280mm cast iron rotors used on the 16inch rims; thanks.

I swear by Ferodo Platinum (P) for street and CP1 for race.

I seem to be locked in on Ferodo, but any good brand of "organic" compound would be appropriate for those nice iron rotors.

Research was heading in that direction but there are allot of conflicting options out there; I would rather chat to those that are actually using the combination I am dealing with, Bimota DB1 ø280mm rotors with 30/34 goldlines. Pic of the engine rebuild attached.

My favorite motor - nice! Are you familiar with "Loudbike" Steve Munro's recent and very impressive DB1 racer build? Not Brembo 280's, but close enough? I'm sure he'd be happy to discuss it with you.

Just to add here another recommendation for Ferodo Platnium's.
I've almost gone through the book trying most of the available pads for the street/fast road use, on my Iron/Steel disc Ducati's (and other bikes fitted with Iron discs) and they're pretty much as good as you'll find IME for all round use.

Thanks Bill & Steve; that settles it, Ferodo Platinum it is then. I have been in contact with Steve Loudbike re the DB1, mainly to see what suspension he is running as the Marzochi units on mine are past thier use by date. Ended up going with Richard at Maxton for a catridge kit in the front and a new RT10 at the rear - currently being built somehere in Chesire.

I have to admit that Paso or DB1 full coverage bodywork has never quite done it for me, but I do think the DB1's are very interesting bikes. If the rest of your bike is half as pretty as your engine, I would like to see more of it. Are you writing and posting pictures about/of it on any forum? If not, I'm sure the TT/F1 forum followers would welcome anything you would care to post about it. A sport or race chassis with a Pantah engine (or even Ducati 2-valve Pantah wantabe) are fair game there, and a bunch of them are located in your neck of the woods. Or, just throw what you got up here. Me and Steve are paying attention. Nice project and best wishes for it.

I am teasing the story out in our local Ducati Owners Club magazine as I am the treasurer down under in NZ and have to come up with a contribution every couple of months. I might give these a go. I have used bendix for years, but always willing to try something new. Anybody have the part number for p4 30/34 calipers?

All the Brembo 4-piston single pin calipers use #FRP408P (the last P is for platinum).

Yes, and if somebody ever buys that still crated ebay bike they will probably miss out on the other half of the fun by not riding it.

When I 1st saw the DB1's on Steve Wynne's Sports Racing stand, at the "Racing and Sporting Show" in London's Royal Horticultural Halls, I thought they were absolutely stunning.
Since then I've always wanted one. 😎
I then saw the factory Bimota team race them at the Bol D'or, one of the riders being Davide Tardozzi, getting up really close to their race bikes in the paddock that year and took a lot of photo's.
I personally love the OEM Red/White/Green paint job, that one in the crate doesn't do it for me though.

The frame, wheels, swing arm and for lowers have all been powder coated. Base coat was silver with a translucent candy red over the top followed by gold spangle and a clear coat; sounds expensive but the guy I used is a Hot Rod aficionado who runs a commercial powder coating business while offering bespoke services to the petrol heads at reasonable rates. He also did the rocker covers. All up ~ NZ$350.00 (USD280.00, UKP 175). I'm with Steve on being smitten by this bike. Saw one when they first came out and I was buying a brand new Paso that I had painted in the same pearlescent white as the DB1; they were out of my price bracket at the time. I always longed after one and then a tatty example came up at a cheap price over here no one else was interested as it wasn't pristine so I got it for a very modest price. Rode it for a few years then started cleaning it one day and things got out of hand. Found a few interesting things like bogged up dents in the swing arm (since straightened and silver soldered back into shape). I had to talk Claire into giving up on the new lounge suit for a while as I bought an S2R to ride around on while the DB1 was in a state of rebuild. That was 3 years ago. Mind you I shouted her an 851/888 15 years ago.
Steve, you will be please to hear the body work will be pearlescent white per the original. The red accent will be tinted to match the powder coating easier to match a wet spray to a powder coat than the other way around. I should really put this post in anything goes but no one is complaining.
