How many sp2's are still around

Hi guys,I've just bought an sp2 off an old friend who has owned it from new.i don't seem to be able to find out very much about them as they seem to be as rare as hens teeth.i know that around 350 of them were made,mine being number 156.i would appreciate any other info,as even my insurance company struggled to find this model and I'm very limited to which companies to use. In terms of yr insurance options, try Peter James on the no below, they are pretty clued up on ducati's old and new, plus they were the cheapest as well as being very comprehensive in their attention to detail with regards to the policy details.

I have a combination of 4 modern and classics all agreed value for just over £500, Carol Nash couldn't come close, they wouldn't insure the SPS.

Thanks for the info 😁 Carole Nash where pretty useless,spent over an hour on the phone with them until they made out as if the bike never existed.does anyone know how many are left in existence? 😳

Probably quite a few but hardly any of them are still being used even occasionally, possibly like most 851/888's especially the SP's these days?
I know of two SP2's that hardly ever break cover (their owners do ride other bikes though).
One actually rode his to the WDW and back from Hertfordshire without any problems, however the other gave up riding more than 25 miles from home after another reg/rec let him down once too often, stranding him over 100 miles from home.

Mine is #369 and I have 24,000 Km on it- perhaps a bit more since I converted it to a Corse in its past and did not have the speedo on it. Now it is all back to stock but I need to paint the original bodywork since I also painted it black at one time. Foolish me- it always treated it as a wonderful bike rather then a collectors's item. I have owned it since '97.

I did the same when I owned my MHR before the SP2. When I put it up for sale the first question most tire kickers asked was "how many miles on it". When I said 18,000 Km most were appalled as though I should have not rode it and saved the bike for them to buy with no miles.

I am happy for the owner's that put no miles on their SP's because they will be rewarded with a higher sale price then mine (see the SP3 and SP4 on ebay) but I am also sorry they do not have the years of grins I have.

It is getting to be time to sell mine and for it miles it is very very clean since I am pretty anal about my bikes.

I would be interested to hear if anyone in the US is interested in owning an SP2 with a clean US title. I would like to pass it one to someone who would like to ride it.

The pictures show it yesterday with bodywork from a standard /'91--- but the seat is from another SP2 that has original paint but someone put turn signals on the seat so there are two holes on each side.

I have the original bodywork in primer and am working toward painting it when I paint some bodywork for my '91 Corse.

Lovely Mark as you say just the bodywork to do, but a great opportunity for you guy's in the US of A how many sp2's are on US soil not many!

Thanks Scott-- is a temp solution but may let the next caretaker come up with a far cleaner one.

In older 356 Porsches we put the smaller AGM batteries into a fake hollow copy of the old battery. I was thinking of fabricating such a box just to see what it would look like.

Over here in the UK there's suppliers of "fake" Vintage and Classic bike OEM "lookalike" battery covers, so that owners can use modern more reliable batteries in their old bikes.
In the same way that a modern contact less, self generating ignition system can be built inside an old Magneto or Dyno' housings.

P.S. I used closed cell foam blocks wrapped in good old "Gaffer/Duct/Racer" tape to pack out the battery crate on my 851, to accept a smaller Hawker Odyssey battery.
...and until I get around to making a lightweight crate for the even smaller Ballistic I've done the same except the blocks are bigger.
They work well and weigh cock all so it's job temporarily done in my book.
When the fairings on and you're moving the tyre kickers/nit pickers/rivet counters/et al can't see it anyway.
