851+

A few years back, before my business kicked off and consumed most of my free time, I built a 996 race engine in to my 851. Although I did many a track day, including the festival of 1000 bikes at Mallory, the build was only really a 'dry' build and in my eyes the 851+ certainly wasn't finished.
Now, after 17 years of ownership, I have had to unfortunately sell the motorcycle 🙁 . As part of the sale I am sorting out all the little bits and pieces that I have been meaning to do since I initially built the 851+.
I thought you fellow enthusiasts may enjoy a thread about some of the work that's getting done and some info and photos of my bike.

Back on the Ramp

I shook hands on the deal so it's time to get the 851+ back on the ramp. It's been over a year since it was fired up but with some fresh fuel and new battery it burst back into life with a roar! A good start 😉

Tank

The first task was to fix the leak from the the fuel tank. I welded the crack along the bottom of the tank and was impressed with result considering I have not spent a lot of time on the TIG. With the tank off, I also took the opportunity to clean out the inside of the tank and seal it from corrosion. One of the breather pipes from the cap was blocked, this took quite a while and several lengths of choke cable to clean out.

Shame you've got to sell it, how did you get 996cc's did you drop in a ST4S motor?

Engine

Steve R, it's going to be a shame to see it go, a set of factory Marvic wheels, body work from Casoli's bike, the carbon RAM air piece and air box going with the sale as well, bit of a blow.
I had the engine cases fabricated to fit with the 888 swing arm bearings rather than use the ST cases.
