I'm looking at getting a new project. I just sold my 96 monster 900 a few months ago and want something to play with a little more.
The bike is a 1990 851 with 32k miles. In the past 5k miles it has had its piston rings replaced, and does have many service records that goes back years at a Ducati dealer. The bike has not been on the road in 5 years and needs work.
A short list of things that I know it will need just to get it going.
- fuel tank flush
- belts
- plugs
- fluids flushed
- tires
- battery
The fairings are in poor shape (on a scale of 1-10 they are a 3-4). The bike is dirty and needs a good pressure wash. It has been down slightly on the right side and needs a new brake pedal. The seat is trash and needs to be completely rebuilt or replaced. The controls have been weathered and need help. How much should I be looking at paying for it and what is the value of the bikes? It's a co workers bike and I have every bit of trust with them. I wouldn't be looking at turning it around either but holding on to it and enjoying the bike.
Thanks
Pompey
In uk you would be looking at the 3k mark, however, with out a turn around, if its the bike you want, you will enjoy fixing it up and getting to know it...

I paid $7300.00 for my 93 SPO and it was in great shape. I have it isured for $12,000.00
Normally I would say that fairing are no big deal (as with Japanese bikes) but in this case it actually hard to find parts and deckles.
I would suggest $5000.00 - $6000.00 US but check the mech. first and research the fairing re and re.
Ask your coworker "what were you thinking $$" 😁
