I hope you paint the nose red! I agree with the white number board around a square headlight looking odd. My strada sp lookalike came with it. My solution was to make a headlight cover that fits over the top and painted it white to match. The headlight is protected from stone chips and the number board blends in much better. Just a thought...

Now I disagree with you both, thinking the white framed bikes look great with a front white number board, although the complete top part of the fairing in white doesn't look that good to me.
We all like different things and we can act on our thoughts/likes... If not where would we be?

I've seen Pompey's bike (and been on a ride out with him) and think it looks even better with his homemade white headlamp cover. 😎
Sooooo much so that I'm looking for some stick on clear "Velcro" pads to fix one to my old nail.
I'll probably make my cover from Carbon though and paint it white. 😉

PS. The SPO u.s basically a '92' 851 with 2mm larger bore, a P8 instead of a P7, different graphics / solo tail and the Ohlins shock / adj. rocker.

40 to 50mm Hack

So I came across this 50mm 'spaghetti like' header and couldn't seem to source a set of 50mm cans when I realized the pipes on the cans were only 40mm at the end and the rest of the pipe is 50mm! Out came the dremmel, chopped off the last 2 inches and Voila! 50mm cans! Or so I thought? They are 50mm OD but need to be 50mm ID. No problemo, Rolled some 2" stainless sheet around the pipe and put a hose clamp on it! Temporary fix as I plan to have it welded on eventually. I don't feel bad about hacking the pipes as they're not real Termis. They're Fast by Ferracci pipes. But wait! Didn't Termignoni make the pipes for FbF back in the day? Oh well? I made a case saver thingy while I was at it out of some thicker stock. Also aluminum tabs for mounting the headlight. I'm going with the steel 851 ft subframe for now out of simplicity and the headlamp mounts differently than on the SPO. That's all the hacking for now! I'll keep you posted. 😄 Oh wait! Who hacked and flipped my ignition control module on its back?!? 😯

Here you go Gents. Don't get too used to it. Im painting my spares flat black and stripping/polishing an Alum 851 tank. With the CF tail/projection headlamp I think it'll look stunning! I always wanted a rat racer! 888 CHROME???

With the exception of the 851 Aluminum tank, All body parts for the black version are aftermarket so no original Ducati body parts will be harmed/hacked in the process! 😉

Well looks like she's all done for now.

Partial list of what's been done so far:

spaghetti 'like' header? (linguini perhaps?)
fabricated brackets for headlamp, lower fairing mounts (to engine), 40 to 50mm exhaust adapters, stainless steel case saver
general assembly (it was in boxes for 12 years!)
fixed flasher relay! cracks in circuit board soldered. (I know, I'm cheap!)
tested ignition system w DucatiDiag. Tutto Bene! Swapping in FIM chip after first startup diagnostics.

Waiting on:

tires
battery
fluids

Mechanic shop closed until further notice! Time to open the paint shop! (driveway) 😄

Mental Note!

When you top off your bike after starting it up for the first time, make sure you put the cap back on so you don't spray yer fairings hanging on the wall with 4T! 😝

Well my friends, it seems like this is the end of a 12 year saga of getting my 888 back in one piece! 12 years of planning, sourcing, mistakes, and lessons learned. Granted, the project was literally shelved for most of those years, but the searching and sourcing and planning never ceased.

A few peeves about the build? I painted the bow and spring a yellow thats a little too pale compared to the stock unmatching colors. well they match now and it looks more like a modern ducati shade of yellow. I even wiped it down with used motor oil to give it a nice patina! it helped! The other thing is the front sub-frame is not correct in that it's the older, 851 style so I can't affix the dash pieces/fusebox properly and such. Also the front fairing is not original ducati, but aftermarket, not a biggie. I also wish I would have had the forks rebuilt when I had them off instead of just changing the oil, theyre not leaking or sloppy, mind you, but J.I.Case? And my last pet peeve? I'm running a michelin pilot power in the front and a pilot sport in the rear! Cuz thats what I had laying around.

I balanced the tb's as best as I could with the 'unplug each cylinders coil and compare rpms method'. It seemed to be running a bit lean so I turned the bleeder screws in a half turn each. I'm going to send out the 4 injectors I have for cleaning using the two with the most similar output, then she'll be out of my hands and off to the tuner! I'll have done all that I'm capable of and I'm proud I was able to get her this far on my own! I've put 100 miles on her so far and the chicken strip is almost all gone. It's such a pleasure having her back so hopefully many more to come!
