I finally got my paint booth finished and my frame painted. I made a fixture for my engine stand so I could rotate the frame and not have to stand on my head to get the bottom side. Those of you who have painted with urethanes or enamels know about the fine line between dry spray and so wet that the paint drips on your foot. With this rotational system the last flow coat can be sprayed very heavy, hang the gun up and rotate it for a few minutes until it flashes(tacks up a bit). Absolutely no orange peel this way. I sandblasted the frame, two coats of epoxy primer and three coats of a single stage urethane. Looks awesome.

on the attached pic notice the sophisticated ballast weights so's it doesn't go ass over applecart and the high tech rotational handles. 😁

Sweet! I'm going to paint mine silver (SPO)

Any idea what kind of paint to use on the engine? Battery acid made a mess of it! Looks horrible! I dissasembled the engine and blasted the old paint off.
Any hints gentlemen?

Marvin, The end result is indeed what counts.from the sandblasting to the sealer ,& your professional knowledge of paints & application gets you what you have,A killer painted frame.Yes Ive been upside down many times Marvin and have hung parts in precarious postions as well.The engine stand is a great idea,wish I had thought of that in the old days...Oh well.later.. Yeah, me too! I have finally after many years figured out that the end result is only as good as the prep work. I have hung things from wires, coat hangers, etc. Usually doesn't work. Years ago I found a 59' Les Paul Flame Top guitar (now worth about 175 grand), was painted black by some body shop because the original owner wanted a black Les Paul Custom. so I stripped it, hung it up with an eye hook and a wire. Of course half way through the burst/clear coat the eye hook came out, guitar fell to the floor and busted the headstock off, Brazilian rosewood fretboard went flying across the room! I was able to glue it back together and played it all through college gut it did teach me a lesson about prep work!

I love the advance engineering in the whole hold the frame in the air bit. I bet it glows that sort of dental fresh white. You'd appreciate my engine stand, I'll see if I can get a pic. And it has wheels!

I assume this is how you painted my frame also? I've been massively busy with the new job and haven't had time to set about the fine sanding/polishing you recommended but I will soon. I've got to move a few things around to make room for the bike assembly and prep for Grattan in the next few weeks.

Hi Walt,
Actually, no, given the price that I charged you I had to paint your frame and mine at the same time given the cost of todays paint. so, yours was hung from the ceiling on wires as per the traditional way. Not really a problem as I have a DeVilbiss Millenium spray gun which uses the ziplock bag in the paint cup, bleed all of the air out, sprays upside down. The difference between your frame and mine is the way the paint flowed in areas that are hard to see when shooting upside down. All of these areas can't be seen when the bike is assembled as they are on the bottomside. You can rub them out if you want to but probably a waste of time as all of the other areas that can be seen are pretty "spot on".
Hope the new job is going well, wish I could make the VIR/MAD Trackday but it doesn't look like that will be possible.

The amazing eng stand as promised. Just whip off the headers and roll under. Put in side 2 bolts and lift up center support and place lock bolt inplace. Remove paddock stands and its all go anywhere in the garage. You can also disassemble the bike with ease and lift the frame off. And it pulls apart for ease of storage. I've had it for 10 years now.
Available now, and if your the first 10 to phone I'll throw in a set of stay sharp knives that can cut through shoes as well as tomatoes. But thats not all! 😁
