wgsvintage Carlo Leoncini put a link on the TT/F1 forum to his website where if you scroll down just a little you can click on a "fantastico" video of Hailwood riding just as smooth as silk on the big Sports Racing bevel. Bill http://www.motofficinaleoncini.it/default.aspx
Mr.R Cheers Bill, I really enjoyed that as it took me back somewhat... I met Hailwood, Read, Cowie and spannered for the 4th place rider Asa Moyce when he partnered Keith Buckly in the longer races. John Cowie (who went on to win the British F1 Championship that year) and Asa were both riding P+M kwaka's IIRC? Did you notice Cowie's bike puffing blue oil smoke on all of the down changes? That bike really was run on a shoestring, with very close to standard Z1 motors and John punched well above his weight, he was a part time racer with a full time job back then racing against full works and semi works bikes with "All time Greats" in the saddles. Phil Read and Mike the Bike had around 20 World Championships between them. I also found the dry clutch convertion for the single very interesting, it's the 1st time I've see a standard primary cover converted (on a single 😉) the price looks good and it could still run a kickstart for the road. Now if I can just find some work/cash, because I feel a plan coming on for my little '74 250 Desmo. Steve R
RWG Many thanks Bill, Was just finishing of in my workshop and thought I would just check in on forum before retiring to bed, ended up sitting in garage astride my PPR looking at my MHR, am a lucky boy and that would have been a good choice to go in my xmas sock Cheers RWG
wgsvintage Hi Steve, Do you know what year that race was? That was great footage. I've never seen a film that showed Hailwood's riding style so well. Very very smooth. Carlo is probably everyone's favorite contributor on the TT/F1 forum. Lots of info, photos, and great humor. I haven't ordered anything from him yet, but a number of others have, and there have been many comments about the excellent quality of his work. I would be very comfortable recommending him. Bill
corsa Carlo Yes, i have ordered parts from Carlo, one of the nicest Blokes you could ever meet. and his parts are top notch too!! Lee.

Mr.R Hi Bill, That's the post TT meeting at Mallory Park '78, it was the weekend after the TT when Mike had returned and blew everyone into the weeds on the Sports Motorcycles TT F1 900 ex NCR Bevel. During that meeting Mike decked the footpeg going around Gerrards, so he took a hacksaw and lopped an inch off of both of them. When Pat Slynn or Steve Wynne asked him what gear he was using at a certain part of the track? He replied "How many gears has it got?" Steve R
851 tricolore thanks for the link and the find, Bill ! great film, compliments to the camera work and the riders. This is what it's all about. It just makes me more happy to have my MHR in the shed : ) A million miles from Mikes race bike, but it works for me. Brilliant. Ian
