Hello guys!
Hope you all had a nice summer/winter!
Summer here is soon at the end and only two track days left for the season.
I must admit that i have not spent a lot of time on the forum, Instead I´ve been in the shed or on track days with my 748 R.
During the summer I have also traded some bikes. Not like me at all, I like to keep them.
It all started with a friend's Laverda 1000 sfc (black) whitch would not run. He had just a bought a house and did not have time for it so I bought it for a good price, fixed it and sold it (to UK). Probably the first bike ever that I did not lose any money on....
I also had a nice 1000 sfc in very good unrestored condition. The guy that I bought it from wanted it back so I traded it for a Norton classic racer (featherbed with ES2) and a pile of cash. I tried it on some track days but it was not really my type of bike (very good looking but my knowledge about British bikes are close to none) so I traded it for a nice 93, 888 strada.
My intention is to keep it nice and stock and try not to fix things that are already working (we´ll see how that goes)

Ohh, to realy make sure there will be no tv I bought and old Alfa as well...

Wise to trade the Norton, it would have just kept you busy wiping the oil up from underneath it. 😁
Good luck with not fixing things that aren't broken.

I spent some time stripping the bodywork to give it a proper clean and service.
It looks very nice and untouched. More or less all the bolts and nuts are original and still have a nice golden colour.
I´m probably going to upgrade the suspension a bit (new Wilbers rear, and a K-tech kit in the front) an Ohlins would look nice but I´m not shure if you can get those any more.

The only down side was the seat cover. It was replaced to a white/beige leather. It was coloured black by my friend but it does not look to nice. I have a set from my race bike though.

Spendt the day in the shed stripping and cleaning the bike. An Ohlins rear shock is on the way.
I polished the exhaust and I'm ready to do a valve check. I replaced the bearings in the belt rollers.
The BOS mufflers are not the best looking so I see what I can find.

I'm thinking of fitting some other rims on I have several options, what do you think?

5 spoke ducati rims
5 spoke marvic penta
3 spoke newer ducati
They can come in any colour...

I'm thinkig of the penta in black or the same colour as the frame.

i've always liked the sp5/94 my spec frame colour wheels myself. just makes the bike look lighter to me.

I did some upgrade on the suspension. I got a new Ohlins for a monster rebuild to fit the strada (longer hose).
My local dealr also had a NOS Ohlins fork for a 916 with 40mm caliper brackets.
Now I only have to fin a set of triple clamps. Any one?

maybe not wheel,but then sure other bearings.

Well, the Ohlins fork is not comming on the bike at this monent though I have not found any triple clamps (at decent price...).
Anyway, I had a Maxton converted fork from my track bike (it has av WP Roma now) that I putted on.
I had a lot of head ace fitting the 5 spoke wheels. I had (what I thougt...) the same type of wheel fitted on my other bike before I traded them for a set of mags. It turned out that the 5 spoke wheels from 900-1000 ss is a straight fit and the monster/ST4s has a wider hub (rear that is).
I´ll get you a complete repport how to fit the wheels as soon as I´m done.
Powder coating turned out well though.

I'd be interested to see that, I'm planning a 'big axle' conversion on my bike over the winter using an ST4 wheel. Any chance you could post the dimensions of any spacers etc that you've had to make?

I'd read on this forum (and elsewhere) that these wheels are exactly the same as the 900SSie ones apart from the diameter of the bearings, but after taking some initial measurements they certainly look different to me!

i placed one in my SS and it wasn't a straight fit,not sure any more where the back wheel came from.
could be that i came from a monster.

5 spokes ss wheels are straight fit. Monster and ST (big axle) have a 5 mm wider hub. All at the sprocket side.
I´ll try to get some more pictures and measurments in the weekend.

Well!
The strada is more or less finnished. All left to do is to repack the slip ons and add some clear coat to them (unless I find a nice set of termis).

The wheels was abit more work than i first thought. Last time i did a conversion I was lucky to get SSIE wheels wich makes the rear wheel bolt on. I also forgot that I had a digital speedo last time...

Anyway, To fix the rear wheel I replaced the bearings and med a new hub(?) between. I got bearings with same dimensions except for 17mm hole.
The with of the centre is 5mm wider than ss/888 wheels. The surplus 5mm I cutted from the sprocket carrier. One of the bearings in the hub was replaced with a narower one (by 4mm) and the last 1mm came from tube that goes through the hub bearings ( sorry for explaining so bad in english). I made those new in 7075 alloy.

The speedo drive came loose frome tha lathe. I have to get a new one and make a fixture so I can get to stay in the lathe. 5mm needs to come off (both sides).

I also had some new carriers (?) for the speedo drive made up but I have not got the yet.
I get back with nore info about that.

I could not fint my notebook in the shed but if some one wants I can get the bearing numbers needed.
