Subtle differences or being an 851 anorak

Can somebody tell me when the early rear seat undertrays changed on the 851 models, I note that the numbers in the moulding are 56110021A and 56110021BA.

The part that has the lip that continues running up sides of the rear portion is marked 56110021BA, it has a flat side edge (as opposed to curved), is this the redesined later one?

Pete, just had a look in the garage, my '89 851 has the straight edge and the SP4 has the curved edge. Mick

My 92 851, like the 888 has no lip at all and is curved.

The 91 851 SP3 has the straight edge as in the lower picture.

Mick your SP4 undertray should be different to both of those photographed above...the rear-most section should be curved onto tha plane that the number plate is fixed to, there should also be no lower rear swaged portion, as per apr250rs' picture.

Hi Peter, it is the same as apr250rs'. I thought you were just talking about the side curve. Mick

So it seems that there may have been at least 3 versions throughout the production life of our bikes, has anybody else got the early type rear undertray with curved sides as per the first image?

it went round with the round bodywork of the 92 bikes. i think the top one is tricolore, but then it has indicator mounts in the side. so maybe not.

i got a new one for my bike 10 or so years ago and it's the lower type. it looked the same as the chopped one i took off from memory, apart from the 2 holes in each side for the usa reflectors.

actually, it looks to me like the top one is a skillfully and unusually chopped lower one. unlike the usual "cut off the bottom with a wood saw".

This is my early 1990. So the two holes behind the indicator are supposed to be there then?

I felt the side profile by hand and each side felt different one having a slight dip in the radius, so I suspect that you are right Brad as was Spike who phoned me...thankyou all for the input. That trimmed item is now of to a new home.

PS lambretter...some had holes for the US style safety reflecters, though I am not sure of those holes.
