b888ke Hi, just got it from a friend who found in via facebook. My French is to poor to read it, but I like the picture π I don't know how old the article is btw...
jr60 Brilliant - now thats the first time I've seen an 888 in blue! I'm sure Phil will be along to translate - if not can get girlfriend to do it - from my very poor french I think it says there were 50 of these on the roads! I would say its a period article - given the old bm and what looks like an old Renault 25 ? Always found the old Gendarm to be pretty fair on my many travels thought France on the ST - even when I flew past one of them on the hard shoulder of a motorway in Bordeaux during one of the famous french summer traffic jams doing about 60 mph! Johnny
wgsvintage The 851 cop certainly doesn't look very happy. Maybe he's pissed because his bike doesn't have those cool blue lights like the BMW. Bill
Pompey My french is average ( for an eskimo) but, it says under the heading "brigades of the Gendarmerie on highways will soon be equipped with Ducati 888's to accomplish their missions during rapid radar controls" . they were new at the time and knowing the french they would have had a large number of drivers who would have ignored the cops telling them to stop. Hence the 888 would set of in pursuit ...π
dididucdich ... and if you want to know what the "SP" in the name of some exclusive Ducatis means: SpΓ©cial Police I break down ... π π π π
Phil911 Great joke dated 1993 from Marcel Seurat, the French Ducati importer in 90's. Seurat had very good relationship with the local Gendarmerie authorities and decided this joke for the 1st of April !!! I still remember the moment. Next following days, numerous of volonteers wanted to join the Gendarmerie forces with the single hope to ride the 888s !!! Great fun in the Police offices in France !!! I still have the magazine ... π We were in 93 ... Nowaday, such a joke would be impossible due to the current spirit regarding road safety matters here ... Phil911
jr60 Even better Phil.... very clever! Unfortunately nowaday it is not a joke with local traffic branch over here on BMW RR's, R1's and CBR 1000's ! Johnny
Pompey they may have ended up at Le mans 24 hour. I used to go every year through the ninety's and the french police used to have their own bike racing in the world endurance event. Always made me smile every time they got a mention over the sound system the whole crowd ( tens of thousands ) would boo and jeer.π
