You guys are great !
Thanks for taking the time to explain how this all works with these race engines, i feel much more comfortable with it now.
If i understand it right it is not the power it delivers but purely at what revs it delivers it, this dictates engine life.
I talked with my local engine builder who also raced Ducatis a few years ago, he is going to strip the motro down for me and we will have a look at the crank bearing housing and install new bearings all around.
I will likely be looking for the SPS cams but am not sure yet, my builder has a few spare cases, so if things turn out grim there is always the option of having it recased. cash is a serious consideration in this regard but the engine builder being a Ducati dealer has indicated that he may help keepin the thing tight for my track use, provided i sticker it up with his logos.
I took a few more pictures of the engine for you guys, maybee you can identify things i cant.
The heads have G stamped on them, i suppose this refere to full G cams further there is written +4 on the intake and -2 on the exhaust cam housing, maybe this is the degreeing of the cams ?
Cases are cast with 95 for year of construction, the heads are 91.
The builder said he had a ST4 fram sitting that he would give me for free, so maybee i will use that for the build, cut the subframe off and install a 851 type subframe if i can find one. How much work will it be to fit the 851 tank to this contraption ?
Building the 926 racer will likely take me all winther and what time i can find during the season and be ready for the following season. Will be on the 996 for next year.
Must admit i never thought of the motor as a corse but more a tuned up standard or SP motor. i am a wee bit excited to find out what it actually is, how can i dig deeper into this when there is no engine number and the engine came with zero info/history provided ?
Christian
