AJV wroteAt first glance you could easily dismiss this bike as Foggy's 92 ride because the frame footrest mounts are 93 onwards spec. And Foggy never used the 926cc engine during 92 season. However, the early footrests mounts were a known weakspot and it's feasible the original frame has been modified to later spec at some time and the engine enlarged as many race bikes evolved over the years. IMO to claim an authentic race bike it should have original frame/engine cases, if either are damaged and replaced that's ok but the original must be scrapped to prevent duplication.
I just hope this isn't a case of some original Foggy parts e.g. forks, tank etc being fitted to a non-relevant chassis/engine which then becomes Foggy bike' or worse!.
Greed makes the bitsa Corse bikes, that were dismantled and sold of as bitsa parts, all of a sudden become the famous bike that the collection of parts was never originally or even the evolvement of a particular bike's history.
Amazing that the when the Foggy customer Corse bike which was restored by JHP a few years ago was so heavily criticised by some as not being the same bike because it's frame was replaced due to an accident, yet it has continous history and in my eyes is the real deal. Rally cars are known to have been reshelled due to accidents yet they are still considered the original vehicle albeit with a shell change due to damage.
What puzzles me is that when I posted a theoretical purchasing of genuine new original Ducati Corse parts and assembling all the original parts into a fully working and specification correct race machine, I was told that what I would have would be a replica not an original Corse bike!
One particular person, who was quite vocal in his opinion, happens to have acquired an original factory Corse frame, he has amassed period parts and fitted them together and is claiming that his machine is an original 'factory bike'. Yet his bike does not have continous history...Seems like somebody is going to get stung in the future!
It's at times like these that I appreciate the help that I have been given along the way by the forum members, some of whom own important historic and correct Corse machines, I am not going to name names or state what they have. they know who they are.
Having parts replaced due to damage, wear or evolution of a race bike is the history and people should be proud of what they have and the journey that a vehicle has taken until they become the custodian of it.
For those that wish to make a complete bike from only one original part, by all means kid yourself but don't mug people off! 😡
