Foggy 888 Doug was remembering his last race on my Ducati 888. He had started off the 1995 season riding for Honda on the RC45, but things soured and he found himself without a ride. He rented the bike from Jason Pridmore for a one-off ride at the AMA Superbike race at Laguna Seca. Mike Velasco was recruited for wrenching duties and Michelin agreed to provide the tires. He couldn't run his standard #23, as Mike Hale was now using it, so he had to settle for #123. What started out as a promising weekend took a turn for the worse as the skies opened up and the rain started to fall. Doug had gambled on using slick tires in wet and foggy conditions, but it didn't pay off. The race on Sunday was stopped due to fog. In the restarted race on Monday, Doug crossed the line in 13th place, but finished 17th on aggregate time. It would be his last race on the famed Ducati 888. Freddie Spencer would win that day on his Fast by Ferracci 916. Ironically it would be the last time that Spencer would cross the finish line in first place.
