To the guy that rang me up on Saturday. The reason there is a digit missing is that in 1988 they went to 17 digit vin number. So the number you told me must be early on in the piece so may well be a kit. Bob also mentioned that you may see some frames with a plate welded over the top with a 17 digit number on it. This was for the same reason as underneath is 16 digit number. This was generally done by importers whose country already had 17 digit requirements in place.
