Schottenring Oldtimer Grand Prix August 20th in Germany

I'm organising a trip to the Schottenring Oldtimers Grand Prix for the 20th and 21st August, which is an almost unknown but brilliant event in the depths of Germany: where quite unexpectedly an incredible variety of bikes get blasted around closed roads for 2 days, partly through the town.

We made the trip last year as part of the International Bimota meeting, which won't be held again this year, but so many people have been so impressed, especially the 7 Brits who all had never been to Germany before; we're going to do it again.

I'm going to lay on a bit of hospitality at my house, which is about 80km away from Schotten in the Taunus area just north of Frankfurt (360 miles from Calais). Anybody's welcome, so if you would like some more info, just drop me your email address and I'll send you everything you probably need to know.

I've downloaded some cuttings from the Bimota club newsletter to give you an idea what you might miss and if you decide to make it a slightly longer stay, the Nurburgring is also just 2 hours away besides all the other great biking roads in Germany.

nice weekend

hi everybody,
just a follow up, as the Schottenring oldtimer races were as brilliant as ever with loads of interesting bikes and people. We had a nice crowd over at the house and got in some good riding in the directions of the Odenwald and Spessart natural parks and the Nurburgring circuit even if there was a touch of rain. Here's a couple of pics of the weekend.

We are doing the same again this year, because it was a lot of fun and some people are threatening to come back.
Schottenring Oldtimers Grand Prix on August 18th and 19th 2012. I'm going to lay on a 'bikers tea party' at my house in the Taunus near Frankfurt (in Germany)

The event is 2 days of old bikes being thrashed to death on a closed street circuit in the small town of Schotten. Lots of nice stuff turns up, don't get to see many 851/888s; except spectators bikes, but a few Ducatis usually take part as well as enough other interesting bikes, here's the website:

Additionally to the Schotten Oldtimer Grand Prix 80km away, there are also fabulous roads in the Taunus area, the Spessart to the east of Frankfurt, the Odenwald to the south and the Eifel to the west including the' Nurburgring circuit, which is 140km from my house.

And for those who don't want to visit Schotten on both days or even make it a longer stay, there is plenty to do.

organised by the (an?) Egli club, they are inviting anybody to join especially if you've got a 'special chassis' bike.
I will almost surely definitely be going because it's about 30km away from me, hardly time to warm up the engine.

as an update, there are around 10 Bimota riders riding over from the UK on Friday 17th August and going back on Monday 20th.

If anybody feels encouraged to join up- you are very welcome- 'new' people are more than welcome, as a few of those will be.

well it's been and gone, a bit bigger and a bit more exciting than last year.
Mostly because I got a temporary 5 day plate for the tricky, which hasn't been on the road since 1995 !

friend Garry had been asking if he could ride it anyway, I suppose after riding from Yorkshire on a Bimota Mantra, you need a change so . .

The 851 is truly wonderful, we put about 500km on it over the weekend, bumping the total mileage up to 6600km.
Had the kit pipes on as well for added theatre.

Apart from that, 12 odd Bimotas altogether on Saturday evening in the yard plus some friends on 'other' bikes. Is it an emerging pattern that the English ride Italian bikes and the Germans ride Triumphs?

2013 tea party and Schottenring classic bike races

Invitation to the 2013 Crankcase. 'bikers tea party' on Saturday 17th August at: Usinger Strasse 21, D61267 Neu-Anspach Westerfeld, Germany.
The same weekend as the Schottenring Oldtimers Grand Prix, classic bike 'racing' event on August 17th and 18th, about 80km to the NE of Frankfurt; which will be celebrating it's 25th anniversary in 2013 with Freddie Spencer, Phil Read, Manuel Herreros, Rodney Gould, Dieter Braun and Carlos Lavado and maybe a few more?

As it's the 851s as well the Bimota YB4s 25th birthdays this year, we would like to organise a small gathering to celebrate, with 2 YB4s already promissed in addition to Brigittes bike = 3 so far !
I'm hoping to get 1 or 2 more 851 riders to keep the side up.
But you are welcome whatever you ride : )

For food and drink in our yard on Saturday, we will ask for 'non-profitmaking' contributions. Average cost per person was around 15 euros last year.

I have to say this: please understand all risks and costs will be your responsibility.

You are welcome to arrive early and stay later- those coming from the UK usually come on Friday and leave on Monday which gives us time to visit Schotten again on Sunday or take a couple of tours together around the local roads.

As usual a really nice turn out of bikes and their riders, including a couple more Ducatis to keep the side up : )

Friday arrivals

including Yannick and Nicolas who brought their 916 and 996 over 1100km from Montélimar in France to join us.

5 Bimotas and 4 Ducatis surely made the most spectacular line up outside of the circuit.

all I had to do was put the fairing back on.
And Peter came over on Monday, whom I have met at Spa last month, in time for one more blast around the locality, which was the perfect excuse to give the fresh 851 an airing.
