Guys, bad news. Today was the first ride of the year, conditions were perfect. Unfortunately i had to end up riding in the trailing position of shame. Yes it happens. We picked up this bloke at one of the stops and he joined in. He was pretty good, a young fella. He decided to suss us out and end up trailing our lead guy ( a bloke called Kerrie, who is just one of those unnaturally talented riders) This bloke couldn't break away through the twisties and stuff, so that was good, but get out on the stretches and he got motivated. I could hold him in acceleration until about 230 kmph, but after that he just started to edge away. My bike just banged out to 11k through the gears, god it was sweet, but in top from 9500 he just started moving away. I had a couple of shots at him, but alas no go.🙁
We stopped for coffee and had a bit of a chat, his bike was 3mths old and had been into the shop for a make over. Yoshimira system, Hi comp pistons, balanced etc, and gsx 750 throttle bodies. Dyno was 167 Hp and 138 Nm of torque apparently. No wonder I couldn't pass him.
Oh the shame of it all! I'm still emotionally distraught.😁
Ooops for got to tell you what the bike was........ Newish GSX 1400. 😯 😁

Don't you love those guys Griff! You know.. the guys who stomp on you in the straights.. but cannot hold their own in the corners. They make you work very hard to get them back! When I was getting my racing license in Michigan I was riding my 900SS against mostly 600 Jap bikes. They were faster, turned better, and much easier to ride than my truck steering 900. I ringed my Ducati's neck to keep pace with them... But there was this one guy on a Gixxer 1000 who rode all the wrong lines in the corners, getting close to him meant you had to go way off line and pass him under not-so-good circumstances. We would line up and one by one pick him off and try to get as much distance as possible. Then on the long straight, here he comes.. and there he goes. Luckily that only lasted a lap or two. Then it was on to battle with the 600's, they were like flies buzzing all around me. I slept good that night... it wasn't because I beat them all, cuz I didn't. Funny thing is if I would have had my RS250 at that time, things would have been different. Yes, the track bike that I should never have sold. But we all have one.. or ten of those regrets.
