First track days for 851 SP3 and NCR Replica

Hi to all just though I would share the first track days for two of my bikes, it was also the first time I had ridden the NCR Replica, hope you like them. Obviously a long way to go until the knee gets down but it was my first time on the track on a bike anyway. Bevel is really fast with lots of NCR goodies inside the engine including 92mm NCR pistons ah and those wooden brakes. Different tracks as well.

Hi John,
What motor have you got in the Bevel, at 92mm bore the liners must be getting pretty thin, are you using nicasil/alloy barrels??
What else have you done to the motor, twin plug heads, big valves, cams, rods, lightened crank etc?

I ran my old tuned to the Nth degree 900SS (I'll have owned her for 32 years this Easter) with 90mm Arias 11.2-1 pistons for 950cc for a few years, until it started pulling the topend studs out of the crankcases.
I sleaved it back down to 87mm Omega 10.5-1 pistons for 882cc after that, in the interests of keeping the old girl together, she's covered well over 130,000 miles now and a few of the alloy parts like valve covers, inlet stub and quite a few of the threads have started to fail, I'd like a fresher set of C/cases really, but keep spending money on my '92 851/916, the Wife and kids also keep draining my limited pool of spending cash, they keep needing silly things like food, shoes and clothes.

Years ago now (almost 30 years) I fitted my Bevel with AP Lockheed racing calipers/Master cylinders, they're a World apart from the original Brembo kit, almost eyeball popping until you compare them to modern 4 pot calipers.

Great to see the beast out and getting amongst it. Didi you give the boys on the new machines a bit of a surprise?
After hooning around on the 851, I find I get on the bevel and usually very quickly find the max lean angle by the scrap method, The bolt on the exhaust clamp. You won't have that issue of coarse as there shouldn't be anything to scrap except the peg.

Steve you want cases, at 130,000km they'd be getting close to knackered anyway. Cycles to failure my old mate use to say. I know where there is a couple of sets of new unused cases if you do get around to it.

Hey Steve

The bike has an 860 squarecase in it with NCR Barrels and Pistons as well as a late style crank pin and Carillo rods etc, straight cut gears etc etc, big valve built up and flowed heads but unfortunatley they are springer heads still, 40mm carbs and an NCR 2into1 exhaust system. The bike needs roller starters to fire into life and then idles around 2000rpm, its sounds absolutely awsome as the exhaust is a straight through collector and super light weight etc. I was hoping to start out with some more track days and then maybe start historic racing with it etc, we'll see anyway.

It has got an oil leak from under the rear head at the rear oring area which is not bad at all but needs fixing etc. The cases were bored out to fit the NCR barrells and the cases were also fitted with steel Timeserts for the cylinder studs to screw into. Anyway gotta run for now will write up some more soon, hey Griff thanks for the comments mate, I dont know about frightening the modern boys more that I frightened myself etc.

I've Timeserted all of the topend studs now, but the alloy seems to be crystalising with age hence the threads and odd part letting go now.
I used to run a big bore NCR style 2 into 1 system, it hit 113 decibels on the noise meter at a club racing practice day back in the early 80's.
So I had a tuned length seperate pipe per cylinder system made, that added power but brought the noise down...
It's still F'ckin LOUD though!
At a DOCGB get together it was awarded a special prize for "The finest sound from a Ducati"

If anyone needs on of those seat tank units, I just happen to know where one is. I was going to fit it to the S2 but the frame is wider than the old SS's

PS Twist throttle, hang on, grit teeth and blow them away. I've made a guy on an R1 take the rear position of shame while doing mountains on the S2.😁

Good to see them out there John....Took my 51' up through the Weir last Sunday...Forgot how loud it was without ear plugs..!!

Yeh the weir is a nice ride and yes the 851 are loud alright but sound fantastic, I'm planning on doing another racecraft school soon, just got the Ohilns suspenion in being modified and serviced at Allect Rcaing in Canning Vale. Hopefully it will come back all setup and revalved to suit me and the track. talk soon and feel free to PM me, are you going to the Italian Car and bike day this sunday at Mulburry Farm?
