Corse carbon brake discs

I wonder If anybody can help me with my quest for information and or leads. I note that the early 916 corse machine (1994) had shrouds fitted which appear to encase the front carbon discs, was this set up ever fitted to the late 888/926 corse machines?

Information detailed shots of them fitted to either machine would be appreciated, really interested in possible purchasing said item or borrowing item with the intention of replicating.

Hi Terry,
Laying up carbon covers etc is one thing, but making carbon/ceramic discs is a whole different ball game not really something for a 'Cottage' industry IMO.
Peoples lives depend on the brakes, it's not for nothing that these parts cost a fortune.

Steve I never said anything about making carbon discs, just the covers. By the time I have gained enough experience to make things such as the disc, I doubt I would be considered a 'cottage industry' anymore! 😁

Funny that you mention that but I did make some parts for somebody in carbon that was meant to 'shield' magnetic waves. 😯

I love projects, it's the challenge, otherwise I would just make thin carbon sheets for people to make yoke covers from! 😏

Now back to them carbon disc shrouds/ covers on that 916...help, any ideas before I get something turned on a lathe for a pattern, or buy a plastic dinner plate for a pattern? 😁

Thanks Jacknipper, now that we know he is not worried about his crankcases, nor that his zipper on the suit is undone can we get back on track? 😁

There is a picture in "Ducati, the official racing history" on page 213 of Juan Garriga riding the Grottini 888 fitted with those shrouds! so, YES!

Can I just ask why you would want these shrouds 😳

The whole point of them was to bring the carbon discs/pads up to there optimum operating temp, whereas with steel/iron discs you want the exact opposite - ie to cool them down!

Maybe its just me but there's bling and bling that would actually adversely affect the performance of the bike!

Unless you are wanting to replicate a specific corse bike for a collection etc

Thankyou for that, I will try and get some images to see unless somebody is kindly able to post some images in the meantime showing these!

That makes sense then Peter, I would have thought that the first 916 corsa's had the same front end set up as the last of the 888 corsa's.
