Hi all,
I finally got around to reading that, what an excellent article.
I've a friend who's always claimed that his SP2 was the most powerful of the SP's, because of some mag' he'd read years ago.

Nice article by Mr Forsyth but;

'91 and '92 saw Doug Polen taking back-to-back double titles, then in '93, after a stunning debut season on a privateer 888, a certain Mr Fogarty arrived. Scott Russell eventually took the title, but it was close. The following year Foggy did it though, giving the 888 its last title, and him his first.

Fogarty did win the '94 WSB championship - but on a 916 not on a 888 (although there were some 888's in the '94 series (Andreas Meklau, Stéphane Mertens and Corser on the FBF bike - Foggy was def on a 916).

My memories not that good, (It's an age thing 😏 ) but didn't the 1st 916's come out in '95, as in the '95 Strada?
With '94 being the last year of the 888's.

Know what you mean about age and memory Steve! As Henk said the first 916 came out in 94 and were sold along side the 94 888 in the dealers. I bought a 94 916 in early 95 and rem I couldn't decide which to get as the 888 was about £3k cheaper as the dealer was discounting them with the new model out. (I was young and just finished racing - wanted the latest, fastest, etc - hope I am forgiven). It turned out to be an absolute lemon and spent more time in the dealers (rear base gaskets, electrics , etc). To me the org 94 916 is of all the 9** models to have - like the first 851 it was a mono and would love to have one now ( lucky you Henk).

As far as racing goes (from what I know) few 916's were raced in 94 - the factory team in wsbk - Fogarty and Fallapa (until his accident - was replaced by another Italian can't rem his name), I think Whitham also raced a moto cinelli 916 in wsb/bsb. The majority of Ducati's raced in 94 were 888's (or 926's by then) in domestic championships - BSB, American SBK (Corser won it on a fbf 888 and then did some wsbk rounds).

I'll now get my nerds coat and leave.....
