Well, I was just going to put my motor back together as is and put my project on hold... but then I had an issue with my cylinders. That is solved as I have another set. Then I spotted some rocker arms for sale on Ebay. So why not jump-start my project again, I thought. So, I picked up some rockers from two different buyers. One I had dealt with before and the other was a newbie. You have to look really hard at pictures when you buy rocker arms, making sure you also read the description for condition. You are basically taking a chance that what you will get will be crap and that is a waste of money. I had a very good experience with the newbie seller and bought 9 rockers, both openers and closers. They are in great shape and I got a good price. Apparently this guy had some bad rockers, so he replaced them all and I got the good ones. I just needed two more so those I bought from a dealer I've bought from prior. In the pictures they looked great, but when I got them they were not in all that great condition. Some flaking not on the surface but starting on the edges.. and the start of indents where the cam contacts. Still I can use them as they are in better shape than the ones I need to replace.
My point being. You've got to be careful when it comes to rocker arms. The fact that they are being sold may mean they are not in good condition. But sometimes you get lucky. And at $50-$100 each for reconditioning, it's worth a look at second-hand items. Just look at all the details and remember the fingernail trick...if you can feel an imperfection with your fingernail then you don't want them.
