My SP3

I'm pleased to say that i have an addition to my Ducati/Laverda family. An SP3 which i bought from a extremely nice chap from Holland who advertised the bike on the forum a few weeks ago and i was lucky enough to call him before anybody else. After numerous calls with the charming Mr Otten, a date for payment/collection was arranged and to cut a long story short i received the bike Friday afternoon (yesterday). You can imagine my anticipation as the courier opened the doors of his van, but to my surprise it was, as i'm sure you will all agree, in pretty good nick. The bike is currently at my brothers house as i will register it next week.

I'm pleased as punch and cant wait to get it on the road. Before the eagle eyed of you point out the state of the front tyre........i know, and there is a perfectly good explanantion....long story.

One question, i have to fill in a form in order to get a MOT based on the chassis number and they want date of manufacture. The only info i have from the Dutch registration documents is that it was manufactured in 1991, will this be enough?

I know the pictures are not very good, will post up a few more when i get a chance..........as for the bins, why stop at one when you can get three in the picture.

Hi Inda,
I fairly sure that if you supply the engine and frame numbers to Ducati, they will be able to tell you pretty much the exact date of manufacture.

The painting and decorating business must be on the up if you cn buy an SP, I'm working my socks off just to keep the bikes I have on the road.

I'm waiting to hear from Ducati, just got to register the bike on Monday and i'm sure if they will want an exact date, i been waiting for over two weeks already, will talk to DVLA and see if they will accept 1991 as a temporary date until i receive confirmation of exact date.

Steve, i got the bike for a very reasonable price, lets just leave it at that. And i have quite a few pokers in the fire in terms of occupations......lol

I was quite keen on the SP4 for a while, but there is something about the shape of the SP3 that just ticks all the boxes for me, dont get me wrong SP4 is still one of my favourite bikes.

I've imported a Ducati the other way around. The MOT form states the date of first registration and the date the bike was registered in the UK. I think you need both dates. In the Netherlands the same data are used to register the bike. If you have the Dutch license number (or the registration mark, the one on the license plate), you can look up these dates in the online register of the Dutch office who keeps track of all Dutch registered vehicles. This office is called the RDW. The URL of the vehicle database is: https://www.rdw.nl/Ovi/Paginas/Default.aspx.

I got my bike registered for road use alright, but I needed to change the headlight, since the beam was directing the wrong way!
