cool hose clamps

So, I wanted some factory type hose clamps. I usually use the screw type on the left and the worm type in center only if I have to. But, I always liked the clean look and low profile of the single ear type on the right. Now I found out what they are and where to buy them. They are called Oetiker Stepless Ear clamps. You can get them on Ebay for pretty cheap. I didn't really know what size to use so I used my caliper to measure the od of my fuel hose (which was 12.7mm) and then I bought a few sizes 13.3mm and 14.0mm. These numbers discern the maximum diameter of the clamp. I ended up using the 13.3, which has a range of 10.8-13.3, for my quick-disconnect on this particular bike. You will have to find the right size through trial and error or just use a clamp that falls within your range. Note that you only want to use this type of clamp on items that you will not be removing very often....for that use the standard screw type. I like the Oetikers because they don't have a screw sticking out that can catch on stuff or scratch surfaces. Plus, they give a full 360 degree closure with no gaps. Oh yeah, you need the proper pliers too.

Citroen use a similar product on their hoses to, and again you need the correct pliers to install/remove them.

Hey Roberts, probably a silly question, but I presume these are not reusable ?, and also, how to you get them off ?

aprilia use the third type .. imho the best is the first one on the left because don't cut the hose 😉

theorically they are reusable if you remove them "gently" but it's not recommended: to get them off you've to use a small screwdriver to open the "knot"

No, in reality they are not reusable. You could reuse a tissue too...😝 See my point. That's why you should just use them on hose/line where you don't need to remove parts often. And, there is no hose damage from these. To remove them you simply cut the ear. On servicable parts just use the screw type. You can buy full kits for the single ear stepless clamps, but they are very costly... It's much cheaper and beneficial to find the sizes you need and buy accordingly. I ended up posting this thread because of the fact that I found these for a good price.

You can use end cutters for the installation if you are either very careful or have an old set on which you can grind the cutting edges till they are blunt. Best to use the correct size rather than the adjuatable one size fits all type. Use once only.

the genuine ducati ones are reusable, you still need the fencing pliers or pincers but you give them an extra squeeze and they release and slide off, they have a thin smooth shield that sits against the hose to protect it. they're not cheap but they're very nice and being reusable are reasonably cost effective.
the oetikers are easy to get off, i just use my pincers and bite the squeezed "ear" off like with side cutters.
