marvin wroteThat 916SP head doesn't look much different than a standard 916. The 748 heads that Robert has look very much like heads that Chris Steedman has done, and not unlike the set of heads that Rick has, Ritchie Morris's Pro Thunder bike of a few years ago done by Bruce Myers i believe.
Yes Marvin,
The 916SP heads combustion chamber shape is very similar to the standard '92 851,888 Strada's/late SP888's, 748 and 916 heads.
I've left it alone for now knowing that these heads are capable of kicking out over 125 rwbhp without any other work on them.
I've seen and shown pic's of the Bruce Myers, Chris Steedman's modified heads to Pete the 'Guru', thinking that I'd go down this route with my spare pair of 916 heads for my 851/916cc motor.
(Better to play with them than F'ck up my SP heads)
Now here's the rub whilst Bruce, Chris and a lot more Ducati tuners have gone down the route of smoothing out or removing the 'Beaks' between the valves in the combustion chambers, the car tuning lads around the World have been busy welding them in, not only between the in's and ex's, but also between the paired in' and ex' valves??
Pete showed me lots of heads from very BIG power motors with this done.
The Cosworth BDA which was built many years before the Desmoquatro's were even thought of was making more power per litre than a well tuned 851/888/916/996.
I'm very tempted to give him a pair of heads and say...
"Here you go Pete, lets see what you can do?"
Pete got more power from a Rotax single than Ducati got from their works Supermono, (half of a good Desmoquatro) whilst he was experimenting with this tuning he actually shaved a single cylinder head off of a BDA head and grafted it onto the Rotax and it kicked the factory Supermono's power output into the dust.
He also designs and builds his own inection systems/Throttle bodies using a sliding gate instead of a butterfly valve as this set up is less restrictive.
He really wants me to let him loose on a pair of Desmoquatro heads, I had to hold him back when he sorted out my 91SP heads, as I could never afford the development time he'd put into them, but he's looked at all the pic's, books and heads I've lent him and thinks it wouldn't be hard to modify a pair of heads that would kick the arses of anything I've shown him, saying that it all looks pretty simple to him.
