Hallo,

i need some help please. Cold somebody tell me the orgininal transmision from the 851 please? I think it was 15:37😳 Should i take a 39??? Because of expectet power from about 130HP. Is that not to short? Wheelyyyyyyy.

15/39 was 851, 15/36 851SP with the close ratio box and 888 might have been 15/37, not sure if they went 37 rear on them.

IIRC 15/38 851 Strada, 15/36 SP, 15/37 888 Strada,
I've used 15/39 on a '92 851 Strada with results that I was happy with but...

These days I use 15/41 after trying 15/40 on my mildly tuned 851/916, that kicks out similar power to the SP(4)S and SP5's.
I find the 15/41 spot on on the 851/916 which has a standard wide ratio cluster, the motor hits peak power at 9,500-750 rpm (using 996SPS cams) but will rev on and will run off the 160 mph speedo before running out of breath.
If I still had a standard 851 I'd try 15/41.

Over the years I've found almost every Ducati comes overgeared from the factory and I've owned and been riding them for well over 30 years now.
High potential top speeds are all well and good, but how often do we actually use max speed?*
If the gearing's too high you'll never achieve the potential top speed anyway.

*If I were to be caught maxing out my 851/916 on the public highway, which would easily be more than double the National Speed Limit of 70 mph, 😁
I'd be looking at eating a lot of porridge at the Queen's expense. 😯

A couple of years ago finding myself on an empty motorway on a sunny evening, I wound her up and she was still pulling hard when she went off the speedo, I could have held the throttle open to see if she'd pull to the 10,750 rpm limiter in top gear, but the thought of being one of the Queens guests and losing my job had me rolling the throttle back...

It's at times like this that I almost wish that I lived in Germany.

I run 14/36 at the moment and have done for a couple of years(which I have been really happy with),but am trying a few different sprocket combinations at the moment.

I find 15/41 really nice. I wouldn't go back to any 14 combination now.

Hallo, i found some time to mount some parts....engine is closed, clutch is in, Filters are mounted......Next to do is finishing the cockpit with the motogadget and the water gauge. After that i will finish the wirering and the straight line is ahead😁 .

Re gearing:
I wonder if the ECU chip and the gearing should be chosen to suit each other?

Terry I would have thought that the parameters of the chip are based upon the revs, loading upon the engine and air pressure.

Gearing would have no affect upon how the chip behaved with the engine's charachter, however it would be important that the gearing is suitable for the track so that the engine would be running at it's optimum performance level.

The issue would then become what gearing for what track, has it many corners, how long is the straight and is the bike over geared for the track. Just because the bike is able to 'rev out' to max on the straight still doesn't mean that the gearing is the most suitable for the track. It could be faster with a lower set of gearing as it maybe a more twisty circuit and therefore acceleration out of corners should be the priority.

I believe that's why they go testing! 😄

P.S. There may be some merit in different chips for different weather conditions, air pressure does change with weather conditions and you could make the charactheristics of the fuelling and ignition softer for say wetter conditions.

Hi all,

first of all a happy new year to all of you. After a long time i could do some at my project. I had a bike accident at the beginning of 2011 and it was not sure that i could drive a sbk bike any more. After a few month of training and many visits at the doc, i´m optimistic to start driving my 888 this year...

At the end of last year i found an öhlinsforkin good shape with fresh service. So the top joke has to be modified.....

Cuts for the tailight are made and now i´m working on the holder of the ecu in the back....
