Does anyone have any info regarding the various regional/country specification differences for the 851 Tri Strada?
I'm not sure if the European delivered Stradas were exactly the same as those delivered to Japan or Australia? (Vins aside). I believe the US did not get 1988 Stradas, (only kits).
Buy specification differences, I am referring to both parts and emission related engine settings and the like.
As development progressed, I believe production became more automated and more and more hand built parts were changed with machine produced parts.
If this is the case, would those countries that received the later built Stradas (say 850260 to 850350) received 'less of a hand built' machine? If so, would it be correct to suggest the earlier built bikes are more sought after?
Any info about what numbered bikes went to what countries would be muchly appreciated.

Don't really know if there is that much difference other than the headlight for left hand roads. You are right that the US did not get any strada's only 50 KIT were supposed to go but that did not happen either as all 50 did not make it.
At the time it might have been to hard to get the bikes set up for California's tough emission laws.Don't really know why the US never got them.
To me it seems like most of the numbers are pretty random for each country.I have seen number 62 and number 282 for sale in New Zealand.UK seem to all have low numbers and japan is all over the place.Of the 8 that came to Australia originally a couple of them seem to be of the 200 and up number but i don't know them all.Quite a few seem to be filtering in fron Japan and they are all high numbers but it seems pretty random to me

Tri Numbers still around in each Country
Would be interested to know how many of the 300 odd Stradas and the 200 odd kits are still around. I would presume a lot of original kits would have gone by the wayside through racing and the constant updgrade of parts. Anyone have any figures?

Hi.I have a tricolour stada in excellent original condition. It has done 20k km as I used it as my full time bike when I first got it but now only does the odd track day.Current runs on kit 17inch wheels but the originals are stored away.Over the years I have picked up spares including a complete rear seat/tail unit with seat, lights and indicators.Bought a 996sps to have my fun on.

851 Tricolore Strada - Kit S - Lucchinelli Rep.
Some years back I purchased an 888 Lucchinelli Replica from Richard Avent, ex. Moto Vecchia and the rebuild of this whetted my appetite for the two Tricolores to complete the group. The 851 Kit S acquired some time later had lain unused in the showroom of Ghost Ducati, New York, and came my way on company closure. Although the engine had beeen run up and fully serviced it had never turned a wheel on the road, in fact the Dunlop slicks still had the hairy bits. Unfortunately whilst uncrating the bike I ran over a nail which punctured the rear. Slicks removed and replaced by Pirelli Stradas bought for the SP5. An annoying trait of these States bound bikes is the headlight being permanently lit with the ignition on, a disease now commonplace I fear.
This is a brief spec. of the Lucchi. Rep.:-
888cc, twin injectors, higher compression and different cams and valves to the 851 Tricolore Kit, minimum electrics although with a rear light assembly for WSB homologation, battery tray down by the front cylinder as per 888 SP5, 300mm. front discs with the calipers spaced out to fit, 17'' Mavic magnesiums, "silencers" the same as the Kit however appreciably louder by dint of the big bore and higher compression, approximately 130 crank BHP with 120 to the wheel, 160Kg ready to ride with 10 litre petrol; all in all a beautiful responsive bike to ride.
Comparing back to back with the 851 Kit S is similar to going from a 888 Strada to an SP5, so different are the two.
When Ducati announced the 4 valve twins going into production two local Laddies placed their order with the factory and, on fulfillment, journeyed to Italy for the collection and ride home to Aberdeenshire. One made it intact but the other sought the services of Steve Wynne, Sports Motorcycles Manchester, to replace a knackered cam belt tensioner bearing. The original owner has retained the former with the latter now in my hands via three other enthusiastic members of Clan Ducatisti. When time permits I'll strip down the bike and rebuild with my trademark Copaslip metamorphosing into a "QuattroColore" ? I've yet to ride this bike and a comparison between the three will be interesting especially being adorned with Mavic's 16inch composites which will be retained.
