Hi everyone,

well the deeper you delve, the clearer things become ....😄

I have a couple of topics here and am grateful of any feedback
regarding the resto/checkup of my 851.

1. I have dicovered the left clipon has been bashed back to almost straight so I am wondering if anyone out there has a spare.

2. Cooling fluid was very brown and am wondering if this is a worry. I realise it is a sign of internal rust but in your experience; from where? and does this lend itself to damaged water pumps?

3.Have sourced some 17" wheels and am hoping to keep the M1Rs because I love the KIT look. Does anybody have reccomendations on which upgrade kits have proved themselves for street riding?

4. Does anyone have a RHS GOLD BREMBO caliper :P432D?
(4 x 32mm Pistons/40mm mount centers) Cast aluminum body.
20.4425.60 (this is the number for the black one; not too sure about gold)
I have a few spare LHS GOLD P432D's that come from Gilera Saturnos (of which I am a fan) and would like to swap (if someone needs a left) or buy.

I may have access to one, I will check later in the week at the shop.
Brown is bad, I'd give it a good clean and flush and hope a lot that it will be Ok.

The brown would indicate rust in a conventional car engines cooling system, however the Ducati engine is alluminium so I wouldn't expect that to turn the coolant brown. 😳

Some coolants will change color with age. Sorry forgot to add that. At about the three year mark from memory. Good coolant will have a vibrant color, whether it be green or blue or i think I've even seen a pinky red one some where.

the pink and red coolant is genuine toyota i think. and there's no way i would leave coolant in a bike for 3 years! change it yearly, it's cheap insurance for expensive aluminium cases and water galleries. don't use automotive coolant either, use a bike specific type, car stuff is too aggressive for the high speed water pump impellars. castrol do a pack of litmus papers to test coolant strength, i check mine regularly with them.

hello your antifreeze turning brown is a sign of rust which on ducati engines can only come from the water pump if not the impeller the bearings inside but you could try flushing the system but if it happens again id change the water pump. as for changing your antifreeze every year well thats a waste of money as antifreeze has rust inhibiters init and most bike/car manufacters only recommened every 3/4 years most is good for atleast 5 yrs. as for your colour of antifreeze you normally find pink is classed as long life but blue of any quality make is plenty good enough and bike specific antifreeze id say is a thing of the past as car engines rev higher now than before the antifreeze has antifoaming agents added as standard.

yeah, sort of. i _try_ to change it religiously on a yearly basis but if i have the fairing off for whatever reason i check it, i also check the car and my other bikes. you see, if there's a cylinder leak into the water jacket it kills coolant very very quickly, so it's a good way to have peace of mind.
